2000 civic EX mods?

I own a 2000 civic ex 2 dr. I have a Apex-I muffler, matrix intake, mugen headers. This is the only engine mods that I have. I was wondering what mods I could drop on my civic to put it above the 200hp mark that would cost me less than $2500. I was considering an engine swap maybe to a Type-R or a H22. But after looking at the H22 the weight would be huge factor in the mess, and that is not something I want to deal with. Two questions. 1)So what would be the best mods for my SOHC Vtec civic? 2) What would be the best engine to swap?

Greddy turbo = $1600 if you install it yourself.
I'm sure the other misc. parts to get it working will cost less than $900.
It will run a safe 6psi and get you up to about 180 maybe. After that you can save up for an intercooler, boost controller, blah blah blah and 10 billion other turbo accessories...

as good as apex'i is, a muffler itself ain't gonna do much. You would have needed to get the whole exhaust system (muffler + piping) or go to a muffler shop and get them to put in some custom piping which is a bitter larger. I forget the size, 2.75"?

probably 2.5 inch... but where a custom exhuast usually has the biggest gains is in the bend quality. when you go to a muffler shop it is rare that they have a tube bender that can bend the piping without crimping it at least slightly

with 6 psi, i highly doubt you'd see 180 even at the flywheel. 160 possibly

I don't know, my buddy's running 9.5psi on his '00 EX and pushes 205hp/204tq at the wheels... I don't think 3.5 psi would make that big a difference? He's got an intercooler and AEM fully programmable computer though, if that matters much.

a mootr swap is def. going to cost more then 2500, y dont you get new cams n pistons, and the head ported out. other then a turbo,nitrus,charger, getting the head ported out is going to be the biggest gain in hp youll ever get. you can get up to 75 hp. and the intake headders n cat back really dont add 15hp try like 5 if u lucky. look up for dyno tests and theyll show the results. you can also get a new ecu for 400, the hondata is the best, he triggers the vetc to kik in earlier and help other things also. hoped i helped pz-jason ps if u got ne questions im me vts4lif30250

Don't go any bigger than 2.5" for your exhaust piping unless you go turbo. Turbo would be great for you. To run even 8-10 psi you could easily reach your 200hp mark with a couple more bolt ons. I don't think you could jump up to there with just the turbo, but you'll have a little bit of cash left for a couple bolt ons.

You = :screwy:
I think you forgot the decimal in "7.5", if that... No way can porting a sohc bump the hp up to 202hp. I don't know where you got that erroneous information from, but they need shot twice.

oh come on... when you can roll a golf ball through the port you KNOW you are gonna make some power!!!

You could also go with a supercharger. Many of them claim a 40% hp gain and with other bolt ons you could be doing pretty good. They're also cheaper and you can do it yourself a lot easier.

Superchargers cost more than turbos, and they aren't as upgradable.

Not to mention that the supercharger will use up a bit of power just to operatre.
