I appologize for the off-topic, most of you will like it though.
I notice a lot of the same builds here in the past months and the thread "daring to be different" got me thinking  so lets have it, why are you all so fascinated with Nissans? Skylines, the S chassis Silvias, 300's 350's G20's and 35's you all have them built and in your signatures and maybe even in your driveways. Why so much love?
You've all probably heard it before Im a Nissan nazi, I could go on and on but I want to hear it from you. I'm interested to hear your responses as model builders.

I'm not fascinated with Nissans at all, in fact, the only Nissan in my collection to be built is the Kure Skyline, but only because I like the color/decal scheme.
Now if you must know, a little over 30% of the models I have to build are Subaru's of various generations and guises :smokin:

First off I'm also a Nissan freak. I've owned one or 2...OK maybe 3.....been wrenching on SR20's for years...about to install my cousin's DET. Can't wait.
I've driven 3 R34's in Japan(2 non-turbo, 1 stock GT-R) and one mildly modded R33 GT-R here in the states. A high school friend used to have one bad ass R32 GT-R modded to the hilt until.....well he got busted for doing "things".
Since I've always been a model enthusiast and I'll never own a GT-R this is the closest I can get. I can mod my cars without limits without spending a buttload of money. Seems like a perfect fit.
Off-topic from your off-topic. Is there any pics of your R32 Nismo progress? Curious as I also am in the works of a Nismo R32.

I was shopping for a 200sx when I bought my first Supra...Real car story.
I had already bought my second when the '90 300ZX hit show-rooms...
I don't really know what the deal is with the Skyline...?

I naturaly love Nissan hence why most of my cars are R32 Gtr's, but if they made half the cars i really love lIek teh Subaru Forester Gt etc tehn i would build them but it seems companies like Tamiya only wantto invest where the market is and thats Gtr's, civics, wrx's etc etc

you have to respect the fact that nissan can build cars that can compete with the best cars in their class, i mean the new 350z, thats got audi tt owners and porche boxter owners quaking in their boots. these are tremedus cars, powerful, tuneable, bullet proof. the gtr series are just amazing, the fact is nissan didnt bother doing what honda did and creating an Acura style brand, because its nissan, and pround of it.
Why people cant see beyond a badge i dont know.
for the money nissans are damn hard to beat, they are technilogicaly inovative, reliable, well designed and bloody fast to boot!
the fact that the models are popular is no surprise, i mean who wouldnt want a skyline, or a 350z, raw power that can grow with you, not something that you have to sell and buy the next one up to have more power, there are road legal and fully controllable 800bhp ones running here in the uk, and even more powerful ones in japan.
all hail to the nissan brand, and may it desimate all who get in its way, lol.
great models always fun to build, i feel that nissan let them know everything about the cars and have a good relationship with tamiya, which i feel is a good thing.
just my 52 cents lol :2cents: :2cents: :2cents: :2cents: :2cents:

I guess it is the in-thing, the whole Japanese import scene.
Just like 30 years ago it was the muscle cars. I bet tons of folks built model cars of them back then.
For myself I lived in Japan growing up I always saw Skylines and Silvias, so I like those cars.
I like Mustangs and Camaros and plan on getting a 92ish Camaro and building a nice motor w/ a 6spd tranny. American muscle more bang for the buck, if you live in America. :iceslolan

Well, I think everyone is building Nissans mainly because of the big drifting hype that has happend in the last few months, you have to admit, when you see drifting in a magazine or show or movie or what not, drifters mainly drive nissans,(very nice ones at that) and some toyotas, but apart from that there isnt really any other name that you see hand in hand with drifting, and nissan bodys look amazing, and now that 2Fast2Furious is out, all the little kiddies want a skyline, I think that this has also added to the hype about skylines, and nissans are some of the best cars around, in races and on the street.

Let's not all forget the Skyline is one of the baddest cars on Grand Turismo. Easy to get big HP, and easier to "drive". There has been a surge of young builders here (AWESOME) that have wore out Grand Turismo 3 and waiting for 4 to come out!!
Here in the U.S. Nissan has INFINITY as Honda has ACURA. Not sure about the rest of the world though.

Last I checked they were pushing something like 1500HP through the stock bottom end on a RB26 engine without it failing. Bulletproof? yes.
In FL where I live a Co. called secret services Inc. has a SR20DET engine with 539 WHP on a stock bottom end. on a four cylinder engine!! thats a record for the DET. Im sold (I was sold years before that though)
Nissan has always seemed to go its own route, chosing not to follow the crowd when it comes to its design. Look at all of their cars and it shows. Nissans corporate culture seems to be very open minded to a certain extent.
in comparison i've seen and heard of loads of beloved B-series engines blown just trying to achieve the same HP figures that can be had through a stock Nissan engine with a boost controller and MAYBE some injectors.

u know nissans are NOT the best drift cars. In fact, the best drift car-everyone who knows about cars knows it- is the toyota treuno AE86
A lot of people think thats just in games and stuff, but its not. A lot of racers use them on roads, and although they may not be the fastest, you dont have to slow down for corners. Dont ask me why, but it just drifts so perfectly. Maybe the weight shifts just right or sumthin

I wouldn't go as far as to say that Nissans are not the best drift cars. The 180's and Silvias, IMO, have more of an advantage than the AE86 because of the HP factor. I mean if big name tuners like Signal have matching S13's for 2 of the best street drifters that good enough for me. The range for an S13 body can be stock HP (which is quite a bit more than the AE86) all the way up to running with beefed up 2.5T Skylines. With a near 50/50 ratio it's a hard car to beat. Of course APEX-i has won many D1 Championships running a FD3S RX-7.

I dont understand the fascination with Skylines, to me they are "over-liked". Yea Nissans are great drift cars but the skyline annoys me the most, I dont care for Nissans in general but if I was handed the keys to a "Sil80" i'd take it.

This is very true. There is a reason why people like nissans so much, just look at their cars.
I've been thinking about it for awhile. I HATE NASCAR! I think it's the ugliest, most boring, and most stupid form of racing.
I don't like the look of F1 cars but I think it's pretty cool to watch. If you ask me I like Rally over Forumula 1. But my favorite cars are mostly associated with the Japanese.
But I'm sure there are NASCAR fans who think Formula one sucks, rally sucks, drift sucks, and they could care about a banana more than a skyline.
I've been thinking though that a Yashio Factory S15 must be comparable to I guess a I don't know some famous NASCAR model.
I myself can't imagine picking a NASCAR model over a skyline. But I'm sure there are some people out there who think the total opposite of me.

As for drifting, i once again think liek always pretty much think its gay, im sorry to say it and im sure im getting ready to be flamed, but i dont really get into Drifting and JDM stuff.
As for F1, i think those cars are god awful ugly, but i love watching them, same goes for rally racing.
But nissan seems to dominate every thing they enter, except that WRC stuff which seems to be dominated by WRXs, and EVOs

how true, i love nearly every sport with an engine, but i realy do find myself drifting away to another channel when nascar comes on. i think that formula one is becoming relitively boring as they are restricting it so much. an unlimited series is needed. but formula one is good as a proving ground for new technology, things such as abs brakes and traction control were developed on the circuit first, same with rally.
we all see the gradual progression of motorsport technology working its way down to each of our cars.
I still ultimately want a r34 for the road, am keeping my eye on prices etc as im getting on on my 25th birthday, only 2.8 years to go, yay.
Just want to get hugggge horsepower before petrol goes above £1 a litre.
as for the drifting debate, well, if you can drift it well then do it. i love drifting my lexus is200, its all about the driver in the end, the car doesnt drive itsself does it now?

As for drifting, i once again think liek always pretty much think its gay, im sorry to say it and im sure im getting ready to be flamed, but i dont really get into Drifting and JDM stuff.
As for F1, i think those cars are god awful ugly, but i love watching them, same goes for rally racing.
But nissan seems to dominate every thing they enter, except that WRC stuff which seems to be dominated by WRXs, and EVOs
I told you! There is somebody who think totally opposite of me, and I'm ok with that. But at least supratuner is open to other cars besides american cars.
What he said about F1 cars I feel the same way. But I think the Rally cars are still cool the way they look.
I thought there wouldn't be someone for awhile who disagreed with my post. I don't think supratuner will get flamed. :grinno: Even though many of us disagree with him! :swear:
:evillol: :)

i like all cars including nissans, toyotas, mazdas, hondas, mitsus ect but im a huge ford fan so those are my majority of models not only cars but trucks too i love trucks, im an equal oportunity car lover :evillol:
I hear you about the ford thing. I'm new here but you can tell by my screen name and the color I've chosen to respond in.... just what I drive. However, it was between this and the 350z. In general, I'm a car nut. If it has wheels (preferably wide ones) I usually like it!

the fact is nissan didnt bother doing what honda did and creating an Acura style brand, because its nissan, and pround of it.
ummm...they did...
its called infiniti
and the truth is...they suck at holding two brands. how many people can actually tell apart a nissan pathfinder and infiniti qx4 w/out going up close and reading the badges??? and the new infiniti g35 is the same exact car as the nissan skyline r35.
to get back on topic...nissan has a certain appeal to racers and the like. the skyline can be explained by...its just something that you want soo badly but can never get. its like wanting to build a ferrari or lamborghini model. the first tamiya model i ever bought was the 300zx. its still in the box because i want to perfect my modeling skillz beforehand. then, i plan to by the 240z, 300zx (early), 350z - to complete the z group. then start with skylines.
*EDIT*
Sorry didnt see there was 3 pages. the infiniti argument is a little too late.

Actually that would be V35 Skyline. They are similar to the masses but to the enthusisasts who's read up on them they're actually 2 different cars. They're are especially different when testing the suspension. Also different as a lot of aftermarket parts don't crossover from 350Z to G35.

all ive ever owned have been nissans, its the only car i would care to build a model in except for some WRC cars.
