Not to be rude, but I hope for my friend's sake that you ended up with a lemon or something... He just picked up an '03 R6. That would suck if all of them are crap. :(

Is it coming from the coil? And if so, how did it find a way out to the cylinder head? Are you sure it isn't just a cracked sparkplug wire or boot?

I have a shop in california. I've had 2 03 R6s with bad coils. These are "stick" coils for those asking about bad wires. In both cases the boot around the tops of the coils have shown deterioration cracks and pin holes. It seems that this is a common problem with these bikes. Im wondering if anyone has gotten any dealer info on this? i will post more info as I receive it.

Its going to probably end up a defective part, I just hope enough ppl take them back to the dealerships to be fixed so yamaha might end up doing a recall.

Yes. From everyone I know with the 03s this is the most common problem and has happened to everyone I know with an 03. Good news though they were all covered and had them replaced at no cost so dont worry about it. Some people I know are actually gonna push for a class action suit against yamaha for this.

Much like the 2nd gear and Voltage Regulator problem with the 99-02 R6s.
