how many miles does your 240sx have?

Also any major repairs that were needed. Just curious to see how reliable and long a 240sx lasts. Also please tell us if you have a KA24DE or SR20 engine.
Mine: 1995 KA24, 92k miles, had to get rear rotors, brake pads, tension mounts, belts, transmission and coolant flush, timing chain guide thing readjusted (engine made a weird noise before), overdrive button fix, some others can't remember - $600

fyi, nissan dealers use red silicone, so it may have been the dealer working on it.

1995 SE, ka24de ... 47,000 miles ... only thing ive had to replace was a hose from the fuel pump that was leaking. The speedometer has been acting up lately though and i hear thats a common 240sx problem ... so i don't know what to do. other than that its been great.

Well, I payed 3000 for my 92 240, this was a couple years ago. It was near mint condition with just under 100k miles. Some old guy had it as a commuter car. Right now I got 132,000 miles on this one. Thats why this one I use as the daily driver. The other one stays locked up till the weekends. :evillol:

Have a '91 with 167,000 miles. Changed out the radiator and fuel pump since I bought it three years ago. When I bought it, it only had 115K on it. Put new tires and chianged oil regularly, looking for new clutch in 5K. So far very, very reliable, cant beat these cars as far as reliability.

Is the dealer offering some sort of warranty? Depending on the condition of the car, that can be a pretty good deal seeing that it's coming from a dealer. Always make sure you check the car out in person. If you aren't too knowledgable about cars, try to bring along a buddy to help you spot any problems. Inspect the car thoroughly from inside to out. Take it for a lengthy test drive between a couple blocks and possibly the freeway if they let you. Looks can be very deceiving!
As far as rebuilding engines... it depends on how you define rebuild. Typically it refers to restoring the engine to its factory condition, but occasionaly some people use that term when replacing stock parts with forged/re-inforced counterparts. Mileage has less to do with the engine quality than it's service history. Even motors with low mileage (30-50k...) that were not routinely maintanced may be in worse condition than a 100, or even 200k that were properly taken cared of --not an exaggeration. See if you can get a history report of the vehicle to make sure it's always had a clean title, and if not, know what has been done to it.
If you don't know what you want out of the car, I suggest you wait a while. Don't be hasty and get the car because of plans that you -think- you may carry out. It's a lot of hassle to go through the steps of buying a car, and an even bigger hassle to have to sell it because you lost interest. Good luck with your decision.
P.S.
1990 240sx Fastback bought in the end of September... (Auto :() - Just hit 106k. I'm the 3rd owner, 1st I did not know, 2nd was my cousin. Everything is stock, except for tires and rims (balding kumhos on oldschool Racing Hart Type-Cs 16'), dropped with coilovers (don't know which ones..) and some loud ass muffler. :jump3:

Hey Zdude, now that you mention it, my locks are on the way out, took me 2 minutes to open the door one time =\ and the hatchback does not, nor has it ever poped up when you turn the key (I have to turn the key, hold it, and lift which is really hard to do if you are carrying stuff.) I'm not sure where the mechanism for it poping up is, is it part of the lock or what? If so I want to replace my locks. =D
Also, if I did replace my locks, would I need to use a different key for them? (different than ignition).

05-12-2004, 01:34 PM
you can change the barrel of the lock to match yours. I have a silvia trunk lock which i calibrated myself to the key of my car. Oh and zdude you still need a d/s headlight bracket? Mine was pretty much bone stock except for broken hud, cracked windshield, broken trunk lock, fender/hood damage. I pretty much fixed everything once I sold my old 240sx and swapped everything out that I needed. Sold the old one for a $900 profit so...literally it was like getting a newer car, lower mileage for free with $100 bucks

i still havent heard from aricanderson about the headlight bracket, he said he shipped it out a few days ago, but it took him nearly a week to come up with the shipping cost and whatnot. if i dont get it by this weekend, im gonna ask him about it. saikou240 said it took him a while to hear about his too. something fishy goin on here, i think he just made 30 bux off me. i hope not though
about the hatch not poping up, i think that is your hatch lifts, i forgot to mention im getting some of those from vsiev also. they just dont have pressure on the hatch so it doesnt pop up

1990 with 117000 miles now. Got it in '93 with 37K
Since I got it this is what has been repaired on it so far:
oil changes
Timing chain tensioner repair under warranty
Clutch
brakes (pads)
replaced injector seals
tires
rotors and pads(went too long with bad pads :)
Replaced right caliper (was stuck)
A/C service and recharge
headlights (one died , replaced both)
Sparkplugs and wires
fuel filter
replaced exchaust silencer cause of a small hole making it sound like a honda :)
alternator & battery ( cause dealer techs MUST BE working on commision)
rear shocks
lap belt buckle update
A/C went psssssssst a couple of years ago.
Dashboard cracked ( I mind this more than not having A/C)
Clearcoat started peeling off on the roof and hood like there is no tommorow.
Oh yea...had to clue the cig lighter socket in place.
Recently diiscovered rubber bushings at the front are pretty much gone /dried up/ ripped and in major need of replacement.
(t/c rods one is leaking the other one dried up,
sway bar endlink bushings are dried and brittle
and ball joints are leaking)

I'm not sure about the 240, but on most other cars with hatches/trunks have some spring mechanism at the lock, so when you pull the lever by the drivers seat it pops up over the lock, I don't think it's the lifter, they hold the Hatch just fine when it's open, my theory was that the previous owner removed what ever is responsible for lifting it up =\.

it could be the lock itself, like it isn't straight and doesn't come up smoothly..it just might need to be realigned. But ya this is an old thread i stated early....lol

lol....since i live in canada...cars like this are lil more expensive... i got my car for 5100 cnd, but i got a 1 year warranty w/ it for 300 bucks, a power train warranty. covers my seals, gaskets, tranny, and any lubricated part in my engine. But so far...all of my problems have not been covered under warranty..
ive had to replace the left inner tie rod -$150
replaced alternator- $350
replaced battery and cables -$110
replaced front rotars, and pads i probably need new rear calipers later this year...not sure. -$300
im replacing the starter tomorrow -est. $300-400
im replacing the fuel filter soon...or put some cleaning fluid through.-fuck all for money
i probably need a new clutch next year or some time later this year...tranny is good
need to replace fog light bulb-$9
my antenna does not go down.-no clue
my odometer works off and on-couple minute fix if i got a hoise
everymonth since ive had my car, ive had to replace or fix something...its a pain in the asshole spending money on this car. its expensive. i know that nissan engines last long, but there are so many other problems that go wrong that piss me off.
my car has 136000 kms, but im guessin since my odemeter is fucked, i probably got n e where from 150-160k kms.
ive had to replace the left inner tie rod -$150
replaced alternator- $350
replaced battery and cables -$110
replaced front rotars, and pads i probably need new rear calipers later this year...not sure. -$300
im replacing the starter tomorrow -est. $300-400
im replacing the fuel filter soon...or put some cleaning fluid through.-fuck all for money
i probably need a new clutch next year or some time later this year...tranny is good
need to replace fog light bulb-$9
my antenna does not go down.-no clue

1990 240sx, stock everything 1700 oh and 93k miles, bought 1-2 months ago
Replaced dash lock (little handle broke)
Clear nail polish on super small rust spot on rear - free (g/f's)
Need new breaks/rotos/calipers
Car making a "clicking" noise at 2-3k rpm... (anyone got an idea?)
(i'm guessing something to do w/ exhuast?)
Hit a tree (drifting) right fender need replacement
Hit a car (car switch lanes into me) need a left fender
Both fenders only took a small impact
s15 conv. kit 2000-2500 (planning) (going for the sleeper bumper)
Swapping engine soon, Engine clip = 2300
Everything else working great!
