wow, an 81! I've got a friend with an 83.....good little car. Anyhow, as for engine swaps...eh, I'm not sure that many people have messed with that old of an accord around here....there may be (I have been suprised sometimes!). Anyhow, I know that the 86+ models will accept a B16.....you could probably fit the b16 in with a few modifications, you'd just have to be willing to mess with it. Otherwise, performance mods would be pointless for the most part, I guess you COULD get a custom head done by some machine shop with a new cam and stuff, dual webbers, a high flow induction system, some custom headers and a custom exhaust, but why? Just look into a good engine swap.
Good luck, let us know how it goes....

If you have the money to get a swap for that thing, then you should consider buying a new car. Sounds like you want a fast car, well I hate to tell you this but the accords before 86 are getting harder and harder to get parts for. Especially if you're looking to make it fast, you're gonna have to get a lot of parts custom made. If you like accords, try getting an 86+ one, 3rd generation and up accords have lots of parts/capabilities.

I used to own an '83 Accord 1.8 4dr sedan, and I often thought of doing an engine swap. It was a great car, but after much considerating, i just figured it wouldn't be worth all the time and effort. If you decide to do an engine swap, you will have quite the sleeper, 'cause all the early 80's Accords are very light!!! Just around 2,200 lbs.
Check out what this guy is doing w/ his 77 Accord!!! I can't imagine the time that it would take to do all of this:
