ok here's the deal. friend of mind has 85 944 in great condition with 90k on it, automatic tranny. Asking only 1k but there is a catch...it's got a rodknock. When he changed oil about a year ago he forgot to check for oil gasket and oil leaked out . now it has not been driven ever since this mishap. car is in great condition except for teh rod knock.

now my question is is it worth getting the car for this kind of price fixing it up and then selling it ? i am hoping that all it needs is rod bearings what woud they cost(no labor just parts ill be doing all work myself)?
oh eyah and another question....how dificult is it to get to the pan to replace rod bearings? i never saw what 944 looks from under the car.

thanks a lot hope to hear a lot of coments
PS
i was planning to keep the car untill i found out it was auto and for me thats a turnoff so i am hoping to sell this car make some money off of it and then get a 5 spd 944 or 951.

Sounds like a deal to me since I just paid 900.00 for a 1985.5 with a blown engine. From the reseach I have done, a good running one in nice condition would run you around 4000.00.

Fix it and sell it for a profit I'd say.

FYI mine is an automatic as any sports car should be.

If it is knocking you will need to turn the crankshaft as well as change bearings. Check to make sure the piston is still okay. May as well put in rings. To do it right, have the cylinders machined. Running an engine out of oil does lots of damage. Without a total rebuild, it isn't going to last long.
