Help! Car cuts out while driving??

Sorry to post this here, but the Sunfire section has not helped.

I have a 95 Sunfire GT that I bought needing an engine. I put in a lower mileage engine and the car runs great...except that it cuts off from time to time, especially going over bumps, and all the warning lights come on for about 5 seconds. When the car (engine) cuts out, it is only for a second. Can anyone put me on the right track? Also, is it normal for the temp guage to fluctuate? I have owned only imports until this car and the temp never moves on all my previous cars. On this Sunfire, the temp stays halfway while highway driving, but goes to 3/4 in traffic, but not quite to the overheating mark...Thanks in advance.

I think it's normal for them to run a tad bit hotter in traffic. But as to the cutting out, possibly some pain in the ass electrical gremlin somewhere, a loose connector, or something of the sort. Would make sense, since the engine was just changed out.

go back and check your ground straps, clean battery terminals, etc. you could also very carefully do a wiggle test. with it running, wiggle the wire looms, sensor connectors, battery cables, etc. and see if you can cause the prob to repeat itself. just watch where you put your hands.

OK, I just wanted to say that I located the computer under the passenger headlight, removed it, and pulled all wiring connectors. Then I cleaned the computer, and put it back on, making sure to completely plug everything back in, and so far, no problems. I think that solved it. (knock on wood) I have put 12 miles on it without any problem, where-as before, it would cut off several times in a mile. I hope this helps someone else with the same problem.

For your tempature problem. More than likely it wouldn't be a bad idea to put new antifreeze in car as well as a thermostat. Tell tale sign that a thermostat is gonna go bad is when the tempature is starting to move around or kinda stick. Besides it is good to do that every so often anyhow. Best of luck with the other problem. Not much on wires.................
