I say Nissan really screwed up with the R/V/Q35. The should keep the RB26DETT, and go with the bodies below. Not only do they look good, but these are lighter and smaller. And with a few upgrades here and there on the Suspension sys, brakes etc... the R35 yeah that's right R!!!! anyways the R35 would own all the others.

ZZ it is just this topic has been discussed to death over the past couple of years.

While most will agree with you and I have also in the past, do keep one thing in mind. The JGTC Skylines that have done so well this year were using that new VQ motor.

And of course, yet another generation of GT-R would not be available in the US.:rolleyes: A LHD configuration interferes with the engine placement, and to redo that would 'double costs,' according to Hiroshi Tamura, Nissan's product planner for the GT-R.

On top of that, an RB-powered GT-R wouldn't even be legal in Japan, due to tightening emissions regulations.

It is highly doubtful that those photoshopped cars-if they were real, and were powered by an RB- would be lighter than the production GT-R. The VQ motor weighs roughly 200lbs less than the RB, and the FM chassis is shorter yet stiffer than the previous R-chassis, and will save even more weight.

In conclusion, Quit whining and be grateful the US has a chance of getting the GT-R at all. It will probably be called the "R35" anyway, since the Skyline and GT-R names have been separated.

U may be right. i'll probably just get an R34 and get some to redo the body to make it look like that.

There is a good reason they replaced the RB26DETT with the VQ series. The RB26 was dated and it was far too heavy. This made the car not want to turn very well since all that weight wanted to keep moving straight. Granted this meant that you had an overly built engine that could handle a lot of power on the stock internals. The GT-R34 made a great drag car, but it was too front heavy to be a practicle track car. The VQ fixes this problem. It is a very powerfull engine and with the Nismo Twin Turbo kit there is a lot more power to be had. Combined with the new body style you can't go wrong.

Nissan didn't make a mistake, they made a smart move. You're just misinformed and biased.

You bring up some good points. I didn't really even get into the handling aspect. Using the FM platform and equipped with a VQ, the GT-R will have a better weight distribution and layout. Like the others based on that chassis, the GT-R will basically be a mid engined car with superb handling. The CPV35 Skyline Coupe can already outperform the R34 GT-R in the slalom. That alone speaks volumes about the capabilities of the FM chassis. The GT-R using the same chassis, yet having far more power and an even better suspension setup, will be a force to be reckoned with.

Sure, the VQ might be aluminum block, but it can already handle a lot of forced induction power on variants that were meant to be NA. Maximas with VQ30s are producing nearly 500 crank hp on totally stock internals. Change out the 10:1 pistons, and even more boost would be possible.

If the rumors of Cosworth's strengthening of the VQ are true, this motor could end up being better than the RB in most, if not all, areas. There are also rumors that the motor will be a VQ32DETT, with a dry sump oiling system. The motor can be mounted lower, save windage losses and free up power.
