Suziki Grand vitara feedback

I have a regular vit and after nearly 2 years and 19K I like this littel suv a lot. Plenty of pep and good MPG to boot!
I would recommend one in a heartbeat to anyone looking for a tough little rig.

I've had my 99 for two years now. I bought it with 32k on it. Now it has 58K, I've been lucky enough to just do oil cjanges and it's happy. It's a great vehicle for the money in my opinon.

ya got that right 99TrackerConv..........these are good little suvs and vastly underated in the NA market.!

Lets hope suzuki can get some better advertising and move more iron into the hands of lucky owners! :smokin:

Bought mine in 99, has almost 80,000 miles on it. Did replace a fuel sensor a few months ago,nothing else done to it. I also like the fact that it has 4-low, somthing the other small suv's do not have. And, it has a body on a full frame, not a unibody. The Grand Vitara is one of the automotive world's better kept secerts.

I agree.....these are very underated rigs and deserve more credit than the automotive rags give them :iceslolan

You sound like the person I need to talk to! I searched the forum and couldn't find the answer to my problem. I have a 1999 Grand Vitara and I'm getting a rattling noise from the exhaust or the engine. It gets louder at certain rpms. It sounds like a heat shield, but I can't find one that's loose or anything. The shop that does my service work says they can't find it either. Is this a common problem with these? Any Ideas?

yes its probably a exaust crossover pipe. The Y pipe. Most all of these cracked in the first months of use on the vehicle and most were replaced under warranty. A few leaked out past the warranty period cuz the owner never brought it to the suzuki dealer for service and now they must pay the $400 to fix it.

This is a BIG reason everyone should use their suzuki dealer for service. Especially during the warranty period.

Hey tydog8, I have a Grand Vitara 2000 and need my timing chain tensioner #1 changed. Question is it a difficult job and 2 can I get the parts from NAPA or other automotive shops?

Its a time consuming process. Ive been working on cars for years and really think that nothing is hard to do..... it just takes alot of time. I think the book says 11.5 hours. Ive done so many that I get them done in about 5-6 hours now. I would for sure buy the parts from a dealer. THere is a bulletin out there pertaining to this leak. I hate aftermarket parts and they are usually crap. So buy the OEM gaskets and parts and try it yourself if you have some moderate experience with cars. You should be fine. Just make sure you have the entire weekend to do it.

How about the tensioners on the 2.0 engine? Are they weak?

Thanx tydog8, that is what I heard. I went to a suzuki site and it allowed me to download the info on replacing the tensioner. I don't see any leaks, but the noise is getting a little irrating. Living in Minnesota I have to wait for a warmer day and this weekend will get in the 40's, which is warm for here. Another thing is with the GV I've noticed some swaying from the back when going over bumps. I wondering if changing my shocks and struts will keep it grounded? Any suggestions.

One of my other cars happens to be a stock '00 Grand Vitara limited edition, automatic. Let me tell you: it will leave the Toyota Rav4 (either new or old) in a cloud of dust. toyota was just one of the cars i embarrased. It even kept up to a Lincoln Town Car (the boxy one) until he got to 3rd and he was out. Man, I abused the poor V6 so much that around 60k miles the rear diff gave up on me. Quite surprising because i would've expected the tranny or the engine to become non-functional. So i replaced the gears inside the diff housing. The worse hussle was getting the car on a home-made ramp because front wheel drive (after the rear diff was sometimes grinding, but mostly the shaft would spin while the rear wheels would not) SUVs dont climb anything that good...

It's got 82k miles on it, and im selling it for $6500. why ? too many 2doors on the insurance (5).

the rattle noise comming from the cross over pipe should not be that expensive to repair unless its cracked.heatshield should should be at around 200-250
