Hello All,
I'm again overseas (Kuwait/Iraq) and finally have the money to remove the engine from my 97 240 and put in something better. I was lookng at puchasing a RB20DET clip and having someone make the swap while out of country.
My question is what is best/simpler?
RB20DET or SR20?
Know of any good shops near Houston that will do it?
All the best and why drive anything else!
Mike

give us an idea of your budget and we might be able to help you more.
if you're not restricted budget-wise, i'd say go for an S14 SR20. it was the engine that was made for your car, so it'll shoe-horn straight in, and it's more powerful then an RB20. but, it's also more expensive, hence why i asked about your budget.
if you don't have enough for that engine and are debating between S13 SR and RB20, then i'd still say go SR. black-top S13 motors are fairly cheap and i find them to be a better engine.
if you're just going for the cheapest possible swap, then either S13 SR or RB will suffice. the RB clips are cheaper, but it costs more to install. on the flip side, SR's are more expensive but it's a direct drop in. the 2 swaps end up being nearly identical price-wise.

CA18 is cheaper than both I believe...but then again less power so the money you save you would need to modify it to get the performance of either of the engines you listed.

whats so bad about that? do you have a problem with the older rb20 also? what about an r32 rb25?
ca18 has an iron block, sr20 has an aluminum
ca18 can make impressive hp numbers so dont say shit about it...i didnt shit on the sr so dont shit on the ca
and for the price an s14 blacktop seems stupid when compared to the price of an rb25...imo at least...maybe where he lives prices are different

for his kouki i think s14 blacktop would be easier to put in, of course i would much rather have a rb25det
and im not shitting on ca's man, im getting one installed in my fastback right now... i know that when tuned right ca18's hold more HP than sr's
as for the rb20? i have no problem with that,
ha and u thought i was shitting on the ca

sr20 and ca18 are both a direct swap into the 240sx...and both require the same amount of work to do the swap...ecu, engine drop-in and wiring...
