i have a 90 integra LS 5 speed man trans. and i have been getting a problem with my idle bouncing up and down, need to know something on this. if anyone could help me out with this problem it would be very appreciated. i did mess with the distributer a lil but i put it back in its normal position, the timing might be off a little bit but i know that its not causing the problem because i brought the car to a shop and had a mechanic put it in its right position. any info please E-mail me at [email protected] thanks, tommy

sounds like you have mad vacuum leaks. Start there and if that doesnt elp then check the timing.

Well I know you said you didn't think it was your distributor, but it actually might be.
I was driving to school today and the distributor in my car went out (at a busy intersection unfortunately). I bought a new one from autozone ($248 out the door), then got back to where I had moved the car and installed it.
Now, for about the last 10 months I've had a bouncing idle that started once the car got warm and it really pisses me off after a while. I changed the distributor today and the car fired right up with no issues and, no bouncing idle. It was the unit it's self - not the timing.
I drive an 89 Integra LS so it is a different engine, but it might be the same kind of problem. If you can, have your unit tested. I heard (Honda) distributors go out quickly if you drive hard, which was probably the cause my units early demise. But if you're one to burn them out quickly, go to autozone because they have a lifetime warranty on distributors they sell; so the most it'll cost you is time.
But anyhow, if you do learn what the problem is tell me know what you find.
Good luck!

This may sound stupid, but check the air filter. I was driving my friend's 91 Prelude once, and it had an extremely unsteady idle at lights/stops. I mentioned it and he said it had that problem for a while, he didn't know why and it didn't bother him enough to get it checked out. When we got back, I pulled the air filter, it was black, and looked like it had been in there for years. With a new air filter, the problem went away.
