99 Accord: Power steering stalls Engine?

Hi,

I have a 99 Honda Accord with 60k miles on it. Recently I noticed that when I the steering is fully turned to one side, and I am not pushing the accelerator, If I turn the steering the other way round, ( imagine the case when we back out of a parking lot and start to drive away) the engine just stops.

Any pointers?

Thanks,

Time for the 60K maintenance service
When was the last time you did any maintenance besided oil changes?
What does your engine idle at?

I never heard of a power steering problem causing the engine to stall.

Never turn your steering wheel to full lock & hold it. This is very bad for the p/s system.

Honda runs a low base idle ,so when you turn on your a/c or turn the steering to full left or right turns they use a kicker solenoid to kick up the idle to keep engine from stalling. This my not be working ,you also can try to kick up base idle a little to by pass it,try a couple hundred rpm's . goodluck

Hi,

I bought the car when it was around 52k miles. So I have not had any maintenance done yet. But none of the maintenance tasks mention anything about power steering except for the fluid check at 60k miles.

My engine idles at about 800 rpm.

Also, the feel is kind of flabby when I turn it to full lock. Guess I shall restrain from doing that...
