Yea it does look pretty crappy right now. Tommorow should be better, maybe I will get to the CarbonFiber/Fiberglass work.
Color, thats a good question. My racing seats are Tamiya Blue (I dont have the code right here sorry) so maybe silver.

I don't think it looks that great. It looks like your not using nice putty. It doesn't look right because your putty looks like it has holes in it. Or you didn't apply it correctly. After you apply your putty get a little water, dunk your finger a little in the watter and smooth the putty with it. IT will look better and the surface will be smoother and you won't have to sand as much.
Did you plan out how your body kit is going to look like. The front doesn't look like it's going to look very nice. I hope this doesn't end up like your ITR.

Yea it does look pretty crappy, its looking a little better today. I'm using that crappy squadron putty, and styrofoam, so that may explain some of the roughness. I will be laying CarbonFiber and Fiberglass over all the foam and putty to give it a nice smooth and hard look. I will have new pics later tonight, no fiberglass on it yet.
The front is going to be a Top Secret kit. Yea, that front bumper has been through hell. At first I wasnt going to do a widebody and started using styrene and cutting stuff up to make a body kit, didnt work well.
I hope this turns out better than the ITR too, this is the first plastic model with molding that has gone right.

Well, Im gonna go work on it.

Well, I didnt get as much done today as planned. I attempted the side skirts, but that was a pain to do with styro. I started, well tried to start the front bumper, however that didnt work well at all either. That front bumper has been through a whole bunch, more than you could imagine.
I really really need to get some high quality putty, testors and squadron white putty arent cutting it. I actually had to use epoxy because it was the hardest/strongest thing I have right now. I need to go to the hobby shop this coming weekend, any body have any ideas on what putty to get?
Well heres how it looks. I know, I know, the front looks like crap still. I also started making the APR Top Secret wing. The hood looks great, if I do say so myself.

That hood does look pretty schmick man.
No offence, but I think the back arch looks a bit out of scale, like it's a bit too wide.
Just me being picky.

That front is gonna be ripped off for a styrene and putty one, the stryo idea turned out not to be that great of an idea.

Haven't tried the quick type yet. The smooth surface one cures fast enough for my liking so haven't felt the need. Perhaps do a search and see what comments you can come up with about the quick putty.

How fast does it cure? I know the quick type cures in about 6 hours.
I have searched, its all about preference and opinion. Nobody has said one is better than the other, its just what they bought. I havent seen any negativity towards either of the Tamiya putties.

Cant wait 'til tommorow. I will start working on the top secret front bumper. Didnt get anything done during the week, I am soooooo busy :banghead:
Tommorow the front Top Secret bumper will be started. I will be building it mainly out of styrene, and a little putty. I have been doodling plans on how Im going to put it together all week while those good educational tax dollars go to work :iceslolan What else is world history for?
Does anybody have a say in which putty to get? I will be using it in large quantities at a time not just patch work, and I need it to get REALLY hard.
Which do you vote for? Tamiya Quick Type? Tamiya Sclulpting? Both Epoxy Putties.

Well I went to the hobby shop and got some Tamiya Epoxy Putty "Quick Type" and have been working with it for the past 45 minutes. I dont know, it my just take some getting used to, but sheesh that stuff is a pain in the arse to use.
You can tell its an epoxy, it sticks to everything except you want it too. :banghead: Im building a front kit with styrene and trying to use the putty and it doesnt want to stick to the styrene but it will stick to everything else. :disappoin Im going nuts here. It also says use gloves and involve skin contact, so I used my gloves, that was a task in it self. It just kept stickin to the gloves with water on them. Does any body actually use the gloves with putty?
How much shapping can you guys get done while its tacky? I tryed to shape it before it cures but there was little success achieved with that. I'll be doing a lot of sanding tommorrow.
So any tips? I will have pictures tommorow.

When I use the putty I dont use gloves, because the putty will stick to it, and nothing happened to my fingers. Just wash your hands, real good after you are done. Have you tried sanding the surface on which you are going to apply the putty to. Well hope this helps.

I'll have more pics later, the front is pretty scary looking, needs lots of sanding.

On this model, 10 bux, not bad if you put it in relative view. Overall amount of money spent on putties for models, somewhere around 40bux. Not bad, I used to use auto materials and I got them at discount.

Squadron White Putty-$1.99, that stuff sucks for large jobs.
Tamiya Epoxy Putty (quick type)-$5.99, That stuff is great. Takes a little getting used to, but works wonders. Sands smooth as a babies arse. Dries hard as a rock in 6 hours. I cant really say anything awful about it.
Bondo Body Filler-$4.99, Works great on metal, doesnt stick on plastics. Dries in 20minutes. Ideal for large jobs on metal. Lasts forever.
Bondo Spot Putty-$1.50, Works great for patching teeny holes in the filler/putty. Awful for anything large. Ideal for shaving door lines

I use a variety of files, and varietys of sandpaper. I use the following sandpaper grits: 60, 100, 320, 400, 600, 800, 2000, and a paper napkin. The paper napkin is great for buffing primer and paint and little dings in the putty.

Please complete it, I really like to see the finishing supra. My AB flug front also wrong, I'm also cutting it to make it right. So I think you should continue with it. Everything looks good to me.
Using Tamiya Epoxy putty, you have to wet your fingers all the time, I did that too, and is to prevent putty stick on your fingers. Use water and smoothen down the shape you want it to be. I used diamond file set to sand and some 220 grade sandpaper, diamond file really help alot. :)
No matter how long it takes, I still think since you have started the project and moreover you love this car, so why not complete it. I waiting...please don't disappoint us... :)
