Cool! Any more info?
I guess now would be a good time for anyone with the original release to get rid of it before this becomes common knowledge.

Great news even though the value of my stashed 355:s and 246:s may drop now.. But I don't care, because I bought them because I want to build them and I didn't pay more than $20 for any of them. I really hope we'll see also 365GTB Daytona too :)

Huzzah! Now I can build the 355 at last! As for the 246, already have one on the way. Now I can build a second, maybe with Campagnolo 5 spokes and little open-element air cleaners on a custom mechanical fuel injection setup.
Yeah, something like a privateer Dino that would've run in the Targo Florio. I like it already.

Yup, saw that bit of news. Very cool. No more searching for an old F355. Though I read the re-release F355 is the Berlinetta version. Anyone know if they're re-releasing the F355 GTS?

Fujimi may do the GTS and Challenge versions later.
The original F355 Berlinetta had the 348 interior and chassis, later they updated the tooling to the F355 dash (but strangely no door panels), and they updated the chassis to F355 specs.
So I'm hoping the F355 Berlinetta V. 2.0 by Fujimi has the updated parts.
In the meantime, enjoy drooling over the F355 I built earlier this year  Now you can have one too! Oh, and it's typical Fujimi...it's a pile 'o crap compared to a Tamiya. But since it's an F355 I can forgive them. Just be prepared for lots of body work to correct and smooth in the side scoops.

Dammit, now I wont be able to get a $100 for my one remaining, unbuilt kit. Oh well, at least I got a $100 for that last kit I sold. Hopefully Fujimi will spend a little time and create a 355 spider. Probably not, though

Bad news. Both kits' reissue has been delayed, we will not get them this year :( The new "hopeful" date is January.

At least we're more or less certain they wil hit the stores, it's not like they have been canceled, right?
Look at the bright side, you'll have more money coming from newyear and christmas to spend on them, which means, ... more kits ! Woohaa !

The good news is a change in Ferrari licensing procedure. In a recent conversation with Matthew Wells, owner of Scale Motorsport, he was telling me about obtaining a license for his upcoming detail set for the Enzo. I asked him if it was a pain to get the license, he said sort of, but since the license doesn't go through Mattel anymore, it's easier. I asked about the cost, he said the Ferrari license is not much more than the average cost of other marque's fees, except that it was still cheaper than Audi's, which was quite a bit more? :screwy:
Anyway, this is good news and probably why Fujimi was able to justify some reissues, and why Revell kitted some Ferrari's. Hopefully it's a sign we will see more prancing horses in miniature.

Hmm, thanks for the lowdown on inside information, Brian!
Lovely thing is that we'll see more kits from Maranello, then!
And maybe you also know the answer to the next problem, then...
Why is it that Revell Germany have released the Audi TT DTM and the other DTM cars , but all in 1/32... Because isn't a license some sort of agreement to bring out the model itself, design and badging and name (which is all copyright) for a given time, but with no mention of scale whatsoever, right?
Or are the fees different from scale to scale?
And why is it the possible that small scale builders, like LeMans Miniatures are able to do a resin model, as (what you are saying ) the fees are superly high for the marque? Or is it that with limited production runs there is no need for authorisation?
Sorry if these questions and statements are a bit naïve, but I m willing to understand these licensing problems...
THanks
Olivier

Good questions, Oli, however I can only speculate. My guess is that license do pertain to scale, and maybe even what category the product will be marketed as ie., diecast model, plastic model, or some sort of toy car.
The resin makers get away with it by producing limited runs, like 500 or less probably doesn't require a license.

I think that no-one could really know what costs and contractual restrrictions are, unless they are themselves into the licensing business...
I don't think you' ll be able to find a list or something per manufacturer, and per car, even !
although it should be interesting to see which mechanisms and amounts are behind this hobby industry.

I can give you an example. Minimum annual license fee is $5000, or 3-5% of the sales, whichever is greater.
For a plastic model with expected sales of only a few thousand kits per year, $5000 is a lot, actually.
Also, the latest mail from Hobby Search said that Fujimi has a real trouble getting the deal done, and those Ferrari kits might be simply canceled. Let's hope that won't happen.

Not to bring up an old thread, but the Fujimi's Ferrari Dino 246GT finally got re-released. Just in case anyone didn't know. It's selling pretty quick.
Does this mean that Fujimi and Ferrari got their licensing issue sorted out? Anyone heard any news about this?
I'm hoping that the F355 gets re-released soon. I'm taking the release of the 246GT as a good sign. (fingers crossed)
