I have a dealer claiming to have a 1999 maxima se limited edition. He says there were only 500,000 made and that it has 267 hp. Is this bs?

Its a beat and I think I may pick it up either way but I want to know if this 1999 limited is with 267 hp even exists

It seemed to good to be true. I am gonna have a mechanic check it out today. 99 max se with 52670 miles for $10k still not bad. Right?

definitely not 267 hp, that's more than the 02-04 3.5's. it may be an Se-L, but it's still 190 hp and 205 tq like all 4th gen max's. that's a pretty good deal though still and good mileage for that year. they say that a stock 4th gen with 6 psi turbo on it makes 267 fwhp.

What is the tranny an auto or stck? If it is stick is it a 5spd or 6spd?

I went back to the dealer to say I cant find any info. on a max with 267 but he still swears thats what it has. Will htat info. be on the vin report?
Also I am taking it to a mechanic to get it double checked tomorrow. Any advise on questions I should make sure I ask?

Its an SE-L and its automatic

it's exactly the same as all the other 99 Maximas but it is not as loaded as a GLE but more like an optionless SE with a few little interior/exterior pieces. :loser:

Isn't that figure the same as a max with a Stillen supercharger? Funny he would pick that figure. On the flip side, GM has been doing that for years. They will sneak out a few protypes and watch the VIN numbers and track engine repairs before a wide release. I had a 1980 V8 cutlass with a computer on board when a officially computers weren't released until 1981. Freaked out the mechanic, but he was able to research the cars history by the VIN#. Not saying they did, but 500,000 sounds insane. 50 units sounds reasonable. If they did sneak you out a 3.5 a little early, I wouldn't tell anybody until after you race them. :p

Yeah, and ask him how things are on Bizaro world next time you see him.

if you're going to buy the car regardless of the hp you should have him sign a sworn testimony saying it's a 267 hp stock 4th gen. then have the car dyno'd and when, not if, when it comes back at 178 whp or whatever, sue him for coercing you to buy a car under false terms.

Gotta be quick!!! I am sure about your state, but Texas only allows you three days to determine if the car is a lemon or not. If so, that's how long the law here allow to return the car no questions asked. After the grace period, all used cars are "AS IS" and sales are final.

sounds to me like the car has been modified, especially if he is SO adamant about the 267 HP thing...you should pop the hood, or like BP said, have him sing a testimony that the car has 267 HP. then you are covered for sure

All I have to say is I agree what everyone is saying. Make it say in the contract and make it clear that he is claming 267. Then when you get the car dynoed and dosent come close to about 16% tranny loss claim he lied and sue the dealer for fraud and a brand new Maxima.
