jdm conversion

I know this might have been convered before but oh well. I was working on a spare build for my civic but we want to get something else to work on. I have my mind set on a RHD import of some sort. I am constantly checking on ebay for a good deal but they are hard to come by and cost too damn much to import them. So I might do a conversion. Time isn't really a factor, it can take a year for all I care. Some people have suggested welding on a JDM front clip but that makes me awfully nervous. So I will prob go out any buy another early 5 gen civic or a crx.
And of course buy the complete JDM clip. What my real question is, how much fabricating am I really looking at doing, some people have told me that the chassis is universal and has cutouts in the firewall already for a steering column. Any thoughts or opinions would be great!
