Removing Window Tint

Has anyone ever done this ?
I'm wondering what to use, or what to use to make the job easier.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

i don't know what kind of store chains you have there...i do know places (here) like wal-mart, k-mart, and target have window tint removal stuff in the auto section next to the tinting supplies

you could also try calling around to tinting shops and see what they say. tell them "i need to know how to get if off before i can schedule an appointment for you to put new tint in" muhahahahaha :p

okay, i am NEVER calling you if i need any type of bandage removal....you're ruthless ;)

I used a razor blade and wd 40...wd 40 made the glue ball up like a buger of rubber cement. Took about 30-45 minutes to do my pass door and windshield. Be carefull if your a dumbass cause the blade will cut you bad enough for stitches.

Like they said just rip off the tint, and then you can just scrape all the glue with a razor blade.
WD-40 and stuff like that will make it a little bit easier but is not really needed.

use zippo fluid, it makes the adhesive non sticky, so you dont even get much residue left from it.

The best way to remove tint from a rear window with defrost is to smash the window & get one from the junkyard.

Sorry to bring up such an old thread but me and my dad are removing my tint right now and was wondering if there are any other ways that could make this easier...Currently we're using the razor blade and wd-40. I read through that tintdude.com site and i think i am gonna try heating it since its like 10 degrees outside (granted im doing it in the garage). Thanx guys.

Heat gun or blow dryer atleast should be used to heat. Glass cleaner & razor blades always works the best for me.

Yeah its like cold as fuck right now and we started to take off the the one side windshield and it wasn't coming off as easy then we tried a blow dryer on the other side and it worked great...came off in one sheet. Now all we have to do is get the glue off of that side and finish up takin the rest off the side we started on. Oh yeah, the we have the dreaded rear window with bubbles up the ass but im worried about cutting the defrost lines. Got any other things i should know about to save my defrost lines...and if i have a shop take off just the back windshield tint how much u think ir normally runs? Thanks a lot jackasssi.

For real, I have tired the garbage bag trick once & it actually worked. I'd say $25-$50 for a pro. depending on method used/size, a steamer is the safest/quickest but usually cost more. Many places have you sign a waiver for rear defrost damage - not their problem. JB Weld can be used to repair some cut defroster lines. Before messin' with the rear winder, I'd call around for quotes on removal.

Garbage bag - use a heat gun or blower dryer instead of the sun.

I noticed under the "User Submitted Tips" the first person says use 409 instead of ammonia and since i dont have any ammonia do u think this would work? The other windows have come off good when using the blow dryer to heat em up and im thinking using the 409 and letting it soak some then peeling it off. I am not sure though, i might just go down there and say i thought they were gonna remove it as part of the price (cuz its hella expensive up here in SE Washington) and if they make me pay for the back window then ill pay them.

409 probably has amonia in it, like most glass cleaners do.

For the rear window, you can use steel wool to clean off the adhesive & it won't damage the defroster. And if you had quality tint to begin with there will be very little leftover adhesive... If it's shitty tint - have fun... :lol:

Well I have an appoitment at 9am on friday morning to get my windows tinted and im gonna have them take off the back window tint. He said he'll just do it since all the others are off and it is prepaid already so i was like alright thats cool. Id rather have him fuck it up than me...parents would be less mad, lol.

Materials needed: Trash bag preferably black, Razor blade, Pure ammonia, Sunny day

1. Get ammonia and spray it ALL over the tint on inside of window
2. Put trash bag on top of ammonia, get rid bubbles if possible and lay evenly
3. Face window in direct sunlight and let sit with door closed for 30 minutes
4. Take bag off and take the razor blade to one corner and the tint should come off very easily in one good pull.

*NOTE* Not sure if it will work well in cold weather, maybe a hot hair dryer will work as well.

I have taken my tint off MANY times, it has worked very well every time, although it has been done in the summer time, not winter.
