Ok, so if there's already a definitive post on this, I apologize. For some reason I'm unable to search posts.
Wondering what everyone's thoughts are on the engine break in period on new Honda's.
Just picked up an '03 Si and the manual only says (as close as I can remember):
Don't redline the engine before 600 miles. Don't accelerate quickly before 600 miles. Don't change oil before 3,500 miles.
Always drive in the highest gear possible for the speed your at, while maintaining good acceleration.
Now, I've read that "under controlled circumstances" bringing the engine close to redline and letting RPM's fall a few times during break in will actually improve engine response in the long run.
I have NO mechanical background but IMO, the logic doesn't fit. Could someone who know's dey sh** about engines enlighten me??
(BTW, before ya say it - my Helms is already in the mail and on it's way) LOL
:naughty:
Thanks Peeps!

Seriously just do what the manual says. But that whole oil changing thing is crap. I've never heard of not changing the oil before 3500 miles. Usually you want to changne the oil the first 300 miles, than the next 1000 miles and than 3,000 miles from there on out. Because when an engine is breaking in some metal shavings could get into your oil pan and get pumped back up through your engine and cause some serious early damage to that 03 Si
