help for a 1986 325 bmw

I just buy a 325 1986 bmw from a car auction I paid a thousand for it,I'm hoping that wasn't to much.It seems in good condition paint and interior looks great.It has 136,00 miles on it and I was told that it misfires.I use to have a 2002 bmw 1976 had it for 10 yrs till it finally die.I was wondering if anyone else had this year and model and what kind of trouble I might be in for.

The car didn't pass smog due to a misfire I'm not sure just what that means and how to fix it.I also find that it has no power and it idles rough.It has 145 thousand miles on the engine.I can tell that this car was well take care of the engine and paint look new and they are org.
not bad for a 1986 bmw 325e.I'm thinking a complete tune up and possible a new 02 sensor.If anyone else can help me I could really use the help.Thank you

Misfire? Better start with the sparkplugs, plug wires, distributor cap and rotor, and then the coil. If your car misfires, it isn't in good condition. But, with a healthy tune-up, it should run OK. Suggestion: go to bavauto.com and buy the tuneup kit for your car, and get your timing belt replaced (or find out when it was done). A lot of the time, misfiring can simply be caused by some old spark plug wires or damaged/old spark plugs. If the person said everything was all stock, he's probably not lying by the sound of it due to the fact that it misfires. I suggest you get a Bently manual, as well. But this is all if you're going to be doing the work yourself. If you're not doing all your own work, get out there and find a good BMW mechanic, you'll need it! By the way, it isn't your 02 sensor, otherwise your car would sputter and run too rich/lean/not at all.
