my boy has a donor car cause he crashed it (a 91 crx si) he gave me his instrument cluster, and his seats.
my question is will the 91 cluster fit in place where my 88 cluster is?
if u dont know its the rpm,speedometer....etc..

not directly, you will need to mod some things to get it to work.

Even if the '91 cluster did bolt up, the tach, idiot lights, etc.. wouldn't work. You can't use a '90-91 cluster in a '88-89 - and vice versa.

It is true that swapping cluster gauges between 88-89 & 90-91 is not a perfect situation but it can be done. The shape of 88/89 cluster top is flat while 90-91 is tall and round and of course the cover would need to be swapped as well. The hardest part is rewiring the connectors... I don't know which ones must be moved but there are many I'm sure.
It can be done but it requires more than just a screw driver :)

can't you swap out the 88-89 dash for the 90-91 dash? Then it should bolt up. This is a link for the re-wireing http://www.4thgenerationcivic.com/how-to's/aftermarket-Custom.htm
It's at the bottom.

You can wire in the 91 cluster, check out www.4thgenerationcivic.com I wrote a how-to on there and its actually quite simple once you think about it. But it is adviseable to go ahead and keep with the same yrs, looks alot better, because if i'm correct you can't swap out the cluster bezels.

you CAN swap the bezels out between 88-89 tto 90-91

you CAN swap the bezels out between 88-89 tto 90-91
So if you swap the bezels and mounting brackets and do the re-wireing then you can swap the years? The dash is the same?

correct, i had a 90-91 bezel on my old primered hatch....it didnt fit the cluster because the cluster was that of 88-89 origin, but the bezel hugged the dash. the only difference is that the hazard switch and the instrument dimmer knob are actually on the bezel, so if you get a 90 bezel for your 89 make damned sure you get the dimmer knob and hazard switch because if you dont ahve the hazard knob ur signals wont work, and if you dont have a dimmer swithc, your guage lights wont work.
