How do I remove the switch panel from the driver's door armrest on a 1996 Camry?

Hi Mike,

I don't know if you still need this info, but here's a link with step by step removal of door panel (actually for replacing speaker) on a Camry. Pick the step that you need. Even has pictures. It's fairly simple.

Hope this helps.

Thanks very much. That's mostly good info, except for removing the switch panel. If you pry it up as shown, you break the tab off. There is a screw at the front end of the panel that should be removed first, after the panel is removed.

Have you gotten it off yet?Are the switches faulty?

The switch tests good, so it must be a broken wire or a loose connection, probably behind the door panel, which I haven't taken off. Getting the door panel off is such a big job that I haven't done it yet. When leaving the car, we can lock all the doors by leaning over and pushing the passenger door lock button, or we can use the key after getting out.

It's really not that bad Mike. Just follow the instruction in that link above. You can leave the switches still attached to the door panel if that's a problem since there is enough wire to the switches to move the panel around... (at least on a 94 Camry there's enough wire).

Hope this helps.
