Power Steering - too assisting

Hi there. I drive a 1990 Cavalier (2.2L). Personally, I feel that the power steering pump in this vehicle is a little too assisting, and thus I feel that the steering wheel is far too light for my likings. I prefer to use at least a little bit of force to move the wheel, or for it to 'feel' stiff.

Nonetheless, I want to know if there is a way of decreasing the amount of assist in power steering? If so, are there any drawbacks to such modifications/adjustments?

A bit more drastic than what you're talking about, but I do know that some earlier J-bodies were available with a non-power steering rack.

Indeed, that does sound a little extreme.. Are there any other ideas that may be floating around out there?

You can take it to a steering shop and have the ram or the gear rebuilt to your hard/soft specs
