Thinking Of Buying 3rd Gen Prelude....

Hi,

I am thinking of buying a 3rd gen prelude 88-91.
They arent very expensive to buy and from what I have seen you can pick one up for 1500-2000 bucks.
well anways I was looking up the specs and I definetly want the SI.
The non SI came with 104hp and no MPFI.
The SI has 135hp with MPFI.
My questions is have any of you ever owned one or know someone that has. Even better if any of you guys have ever raced a 3rd gen prelude?
Thanks

Never driven one, never raced one, but I would love to own one!

Didn't one of them come with 4-wheel steering? Seem to remember something about that...

My cousin had and Si that had 4WS, it was pretty cool.
I think it was like an 89 maybe? I'm really not sure, it was either late 80s or early 90s.
His was in pretty bad shape but I could tell that it was a pretty sick car when it was new.

ya i have an 89 prelude si, but i dont have 4ws. All ive done to it is put on intake tho. Ive raced and beat a 96 grand am. No biggy but hey, he had a 2 cylinder advantage and i won so i was happy. If u want one they usually arent that hard to find but its hard to find em in good condition. Mine is in really good condition, gave 2200 for it. I wouldnt mind gettin rid of mine cuz i want a truck.

my friend had a 91 4ws si, it was nice, but kinda heavy so it wasnt all that quick. Plus those gen preludes are prone to burn a lot of oil, and you'll have to redo the valve seals if i remember correctly. My friend priced getting those replaced and figured he might as well just get a new car.

valve stem seals are all of $40 at the parts store, and it takes less than an hour to install them

then maybe it wasnt that...i remember it was gonna cost him close to a grand to fix, and it went threw at least a quart of oil every other day... so he sold it

Well ill that the car does burn off some oil, but in no way do i go through a quart a day. That just means u have a problem. Mine burns some oil but the main problem i have is a slight leak that i cant locate. The manual transmission and engine oils are both fine. Im thinkin its the power steering and im not exactly sure what i should do to fix it cuz im not as experienced with cars as most of u considering im just 16, but i generally know my way around a car. Any advice would be helpful

Hey, If u have the money it takes i found a really nice body kit to go with ur 90 s. go to andysautosport.com comparitively its a pretty cheap body kit and looks awsome. Also, what type of engine are u swappin for cuz i want to do an engine swap for my 89 si. I was thinkin about like an H22A from a newer prelude, but im not sure how much it would cost or if the install would work out.

its gonna be a hybrid b20. some stuff from the b20a, and some stuff from the crv b20. things fit, but it aint much, the crank mostly. eventually we are gonna put a b16 head on the crv block

IMHO...

Get a second gen, they look better, drive better, are much lighter and have better bodykits out there. Plus the second gens always owns the 3rd gens. I plan to get a second gen Lewd... make a monster out of her...
