driving without power steering

my p/s pump recently broke, so i took the belt off and i'll be getting a new pump sometime..

but for the meantime, are there any risks of damaging my steering components if im driving a 'rack and pinion, power assisted' system without the p/s pump?

MIne has been like that for 2yrs now and no problems yet, but agin I have not put the belt back on to check. Hmmm maybe I will do that tomorrow and post back to let you know. But to my knowledge it won't hurt anything but your harms after tring to turn that thing when completely stoped, or in a tight spot LOL

You should be fine, the only is change the fluid if its been sitting for a while underhood(over 1 year). You could also use a turkey baister to draw the fluid from the P/S reservoir while not in use.

i'm no punk but driving without the power steering is tough, i did it for a month one time and people thought i was working out at the gym :biggrin:

OK? Driving a 4-banger without power steering is SIMPLE! Try driving a V8 or 6 cylinder car without power steering, now thats HARD! I drive my civic every day without power steering & have problems, even parallel park using 1 hand.

Driving any car without power steering is easy, when your stopped it becomes a problem(except for 4-bangers)Maybe you need to grow some muscles, i dunno.

power steering is for babies... real men drive slow civic dx’s without factor power steering. LOL :icon16:
