1992 Tracer Heater core

Hey guys, I'm new here, and I'm glad I found a merk forum.

I have a 1992 merc Tracer and the interior of the car smells of coolant, and coolant leaks when the temp control is moved over to hot... so I don't do that anymore... I think the heater core is leaking. Does anyone know (or have a diagram) as to where the heater core is? and how to replace it? I know that the core on this car had "repetitive failures" but there was no recall.

take my advice....bypass the core by hooking hoses together. Don't attempt replacement. Get +12V plug in heater for your car. If you do decide to change core, buy the absolute best replacement core you can buy....and GOOD LUCK...you'll need it.

Heate core failure is caused by coolant not being flushed properly every 2 years. Coolant turns acidic and eats components it's suppose to protect. On this engine it will also eat away at the intake manifold.
The complete dash has to come out to replace core. Check where the heater hoses are attached at the firewall under the hood. That will tell you excact location of core.
