I own a 2000 Honda Civic Ex sedan automatic 50k miles on it
am I supposed to change the transmission fluid? at what intervals? How do I change it?
what other maitanance should I do? i Drive 80 miles a day, 40 to work and 40 back home, its a combination of all highway to being stuck in city rush hour traffic....I try to change the oil every 3500 miles but if not then before 7500 miles, any input on this?
what other maintanance should I do? I have noticed a deep rumbling now, coming from the cat convert I believe, what could that be? also other then changing the oil every 3-7k miles, I have done nothing else, this worries me as I'm bout to reach 50k, and I want it to last to 500k miles...
HOW much does a tune up cost? $80 or what? should I take it in for tune up and have them do the oil and trans fluid an anything else it might need?
thanks all

Well, there's different levels of tune ups. But if you're worried about your car lasting, get your oil changed now, and then again in 3k miles. By then you'll be around 60k miles. Now just bring your car to a shop and ask for a 60k service. 60k service changes all fluids, rotates tires, changes some belts, and maybe some other stuff. Then you'll be good to go.

Proper maintenance is key for a long running car, even honda. You should take your car to Honda for a 45,000mile maint. service - or save some money & buy yourself a repair manual from www.helminc.com & do the maintenance yourself.
Ever change the air filter, fuel filter, plugs, cap/rotor? Rotate tires?
Trans fluid every 30K
Coolant 45K then every 30K thereafter

3. My car now has a DEEP, rumbling thats coming from somewhere in the exhaust system? Don't know doesn't sound like that back exhuast sounds like maybe the cat converter(jus an uneducated guess) IT actually sounds pretty cool, people ask me if I modded it up cuz its that LOUD like those cars wit big fat cat back exhausts but at the same time it worries me because its nothing I did? what do you think?

The factoyry repair manuals come from Helm Inc. www.helminc.com they cost about $70.00 shipped & include every thing you need work on your car with all spec & maintenance schedule.
Your exhaust probably has a hole some where. Check out www.allstarautorepair.com - We are honda specialist located in Woodstock, IL. Our cost for the basic 45K maint. service is $198.50, Schaumburg Honda is $339.00 // we also use only Honda parts!
I dont know of an online manual for your car, but @ home I have a link for a 91 - which is very similar to what your is, but the correct manual would be best.

I drive in all types of conditions, rain, snow, summer, and the noise seems to be coming from the cat converter? also i drive about 80 miles a day, half of it in rush hour traffic, so its all stop and go..then the other half is just straight hwy.....keeping that in mind how should I go about my car's upkeep?
incidently people everywhere are asking what I have done to my car, such as what mod I added and why I still have a "regular" muffler, see its that loud...deep and rumbling.....
the only problem with this scenario is that I have done nothing to my car to make it sound like that, and thats what worries me.....
I don't know if I can stand to wait until 60k miles...but we'll see, incidently I'm working on getting a crx as a daily back up driver(work) so if that comes thru then I will have the world of time to properly work on my civic...
to all thanks for the help and advise

There is a hole in your exhaust system. Start the car, get down on your knees & find where you hear the most noise. Then look for a hole, or put your hand in that area and you should feel a leak from the HOLE!
Take it to a muffler shop if you can't figure it out. Most places will do free estimate.

You could get a ticket
Some exhaust fumes will come in the car when not moving.
Fix it! if you want a loud exahust get some thing aftermarket, not a rusted stock muffler.(ghetto)
