I just replaced the oil sending unit on my rig. They don't last forever. Make sure the wire is connected firmly on the sending unit. When all else fails, you could always put in a direct reading gage. That means running a line from the engine to a new gage mounted in the cab. These are usually considered the best way to watch your oil pressure.
Good luck,
Jim

If it's the dummy light style, it never really work anyway. If you really want to watch your oil pressure there is only one way. Any auto store will have this, An oil pressure gauge. This will have a white plastic tubing, carefull not to bend this or flex it too much or it will not work corretly. To replace your dummy light/factory gauge it should be located on the top rear end of your block. Remove the carb breather and you should see the unit. There should be a wire plugged into it. Unplug the wire remove the fitting this should be a 5/8 socket/wrench. You will have all the fittings you will need, as they come with the new oil gauge. Match your fitting with the new ones and follow the simple dirrection that came with the oil gauge. This is the only TRUE way to recieve a reading, as dummy lights only tell you when the truck is completly out of oil and is about to lock up on you. Good luck.
