Importing newer right-hand drive car
09-29-2003, 09:22 PM
Hi,
I'm a Newbe here so please excuse my ignorance.
Can someone direct me to info regarding importing newer cars to US.
I'm thinking of getting a right-hand drive VW (Golf, GTI, or whatever). I wonder if the UK/German models are US compliant.
Any ideas?

German models are left-hand drives
the European models are not exactly the same as the US models
some US models are tuned down for emission, and the bumpers are redesigned to meet US crash test standards
So if want to import a car from Europe, and have the car registered in the US, it will have to be converted to US-spec
