Understanding the 4G63

ok im more of a Honda/Acura kinda guy and dont know much about Mitsubishi's. Im having trouble understanding the 4G63 motor, my freind has a 98 eclipse GST and he says he wants to do the 4G63 swap, but I thought the stock motor he had in there already was the 4G63. And also dont the EVO's come with the 4G63? Can someone explain? :confused:

well there's different 4G63s, kinda like a b16a and a b16b

he already has a 4G63(4G63b in honda terms :D )
but the older 4G63(4G63a) is the betta 4G63

in japan the evo's 4g63 came with 276 hp instead of 210 in da us version.. dant thats just due to the u.s ver. restrictive intake n exhaust. i think ur friend is wasting time n $ in a jsp 4g63 when the u.s ver of the same motor is jus as capable if not more..

but that is just his choice

Dude what? For one they came with a twin scroll 16g(bigger turbo) 550cc injectors, ours are 450cc, their designed to run on higher octane gas, that's where the extra power comes from, not just a restrictive intake/exhaust.

Import_fantasy- He's probably talking about doing the 6-bolt swap like RX_speed said.
