Aftermarket stereo for 2001 Grand Am????

Why is it, you can't replace the stock deck without a $99.00 wiring kit and $50.00 mounting kit and $150.00 dollars in labor?? Why the hell did they run the main wiring harness into the deck? Does anyone else find that to be ridiculous? Is there any other way to get around it???
