I just ordered an amp and some subs. I was wondering if the stock CD player in the malibu is amp compatible. If not not, is there a way to convert it so it would work with my amp?

I doubt you can wire an amp to the stock head unit without it being a huge pain in the ass... Plus your better off buying a new deck, the stock one distors your speakers too much anyway, trying to use your normal malibu deck is a waste of time and money, if you wana put subs in. I put a new sony one in, and i got all new speakers, i havent put the door ones in yet, but i almost dont wana bother, once i upgraded things sounded a little better. Plus the deck i got has a sub control on it anyway. Im just saying buying a new deck would me much better and easier.

I am pretty sure that the stock unit does not have amp outputs. It will be much better to buy a brand new cd player. A good deck can be under $200 and a cheap one would be $100+. But if you buy a new deck make sure it has a amp output. That takes the pain out installing the amp. Then you run the subs right of the amp and your done. Also what size amp are you putting in?

Yeah you could do stock my bad, but its all distorted and stuff, any other cd player could be better...I dont wana argue but i just gota sony, it worked great, i have preamp outs and even an input. I get subcontrol on the deck too and it was only 180, they arnt too bad, i can change the color to 1 of seven, even got cd text display. Just the cheap ass sony models might suck but i mean this one is cheap compaired to some of their highend shit so i mean 180 i couldnt be happier with the looks and performance but yes pioneer is good too but i think all the decks look same and boring good performance though...Just my opinions and experiance (kenwood has great decks too)

I do know that on the base CD player in the malibu, that there are no pre-amp outs. I'm not sure about the upgraded CD player with the RDS though I doubt it does either. One thing to keep in mind is that the door chimes and audio alerts are fed through the AC Delco (OEM) headunit. I believe it is possible to allow a new headunit to accept these signals but I'm not sure. It may depend on the year model of the car and the model of the headunit. Just something to keep in mind and look into before you purchase a new unit only to find that you don't get a warning when your keys are in the ignition or your door is still open, etc.

u can hook an amp up to the factory radio and it sounds good if u know what u doing. Thats what i have so far the factory radio and all rockford fostgate equip with a conversion box for my rca's that clamp on to my rear speakers for a signal and i have also installed bass blockers to my interior speakers so the only bass i get is from my subs bass blockers are very cheap. i paid no more than 20 bucks for four of them. but if u like go ahead and purchase an aftermarket head unit with sub controls such as pioneer there nice. only thing about the malibu the wire harness works but wont get power so u have to run your own power wire far as the ingnition wire mainly to the fuse panel one that cuts off with the key out of the ingnition

Is it true that on the '03 Malibu, if you put in an aftermarket deck that you have to somehow leave the oem cd player mounted in the car because it controls your keyless entry and other options? I want to hook up my Pioneer deck, Power Acoustik amp, and Audiobahn Sub.

You could buy an amp with high inputs. THat would allow you to use the factory deck. I know bazoka makes these types of amps.
