GP GT brake issue

Sunday my front right brakes were making a little bit of noise, really only noticable when the passenger window was down and I was passing an object (echoes). By the endof the day the noise was a very distinct 'rubbing/grinding' noise. It seems to only be audible when the car is moving under about 25 mph.
So this morning I took off the wheel and there is definate contact between the pad and rotor, as well as some small grooves on the rotor itself. My impression is that the pad is not fully retracting away from the rotor.

Is there anything left on your brake pads?

If there are "grooves" in your rotor, then it sounds like it's starting to...or is already warped :naughty: Probably time for some new ones :2cents:

Mine did the same thing and I had to replace the caliper on it to fix the problem.

How much was the caliper/labor? Do you remember?

I bought mine from the junkyard for 65 with 40,000 miles on it, i think its over 110 new, but I installed it myself, took my like 10-15 minutes and saved me loads of money, i think for them to change a caliper is way over 100 to fix.

OK, i have the new caliper and pads installed. I depressed the brake lever to make sure the caliper would close, which it did. However it did not release, which is the problem I had with the old caliper. I haven't bled the fluid yet, i was having trouble getting the feed bolt to line up correctly with the line and had to go to work. I lost a lot of fluid changing the caliper, should the caliper release correctly once the fluid is refilled and the lines bled?

The calipers and pads are working great now that the system is correctly bled. I'm still a bit hesitant because its the first time I did any real work on my ride, but the stoppers seem to be grabbin really well. Mucho thanks to those who offered advice/info on this issue, you helped save me at least $100.

Hmmm....what else can I take apart? :)
