Well after searching long and hard, I have finally come across a 97 Eclipse GST that I think will suit my price range as well as lifestyle perfect. The car looks amazing with minimal mods done. My question is this, what do you guys think from taking a look at it?
1997 Eclipse GS-T AutoTrader Profile (http://autotrader.com/findacar/vdetail.jtmpl?car_id=137709236&dealer_id=&car_year=1997&make=MIT&distance=300&max_price=8500&model=ECLIP&advcd_on=n&end_year=1998&min_price=0&first_record=26&certified=n&address=32669&search_type=used&advanced=n&start_year=1997&=&color=&cardist=151)
Right now hes asking 7500$ for it. Seems like a fairly good deal although he put down best offer. I might try offering maybe 7k for it since it has close to 100,000 miles on it alright, does that seem fair?

From what I have read around here, and on several other sites crankwalk is not as big of a problem as everyone makes it out to be. If you go and see the car, just listen to it, check the turbo for play (I was told to always do this by another AF member) and give it a few revs with the hood open and listen.

"to check the turbo for shaft play, take the air intake off at the turbo, put your finger on the shaft/wheel and see if there is any movement. VERY little is normal, if there is alot than it needs rebuilt/replaced." turbo2nr
"crankwalk, if the car feels funny when shifting then it might have c-walk."
turbo2nr
Hope you don't mind me using the quotes turbo2nr

Thanks a lot guys, Im not exactly sure how to follow the instructions to check that shit because I know nothing about under the hood...yet, this is going to be my baby I learn on and love at the same time. I wonder if I could call down and get a machanic to check it out...anyways, is 7k a good offering price for it?

ok look man, 97-99 don't cwalk... mabye like .5% of them do, its mostly 95 and 96. and if theres 100,000 miles on the car its not gonna walk.. it wouldve alredy happend now... The way you "CHECK FOR CRANKWALK" is you start the car if it starts its not walked.. if its gonna c/w when you make a left turn and push the clutch in the clutch will stick down. but really dont worrie about it, non dsmers and honda boys make it out to be something it really isnt. You need to get the car up to about 100 and break real hard.. see if the break rotors are warped (mine are) i didnt do that before i bought the car.. you need to check the valve cover gasket... check your timing belt, c/b belt, start it listen for a tick tick tick, if you hear it, and not just the injectors sounds like its comin from the turbo, its your exaust gasket, if you drive the car and the driveline belts squeal dont worrie a drop of a-jax will fix it..
If your under 25 i woudlnt get it, cause yoru insurance is gonna be 350% a month, trust me i know, im 16 and drive a gsx my friends tryed tobuy them and they cant afford it.
at 100k the turbo is gonna have shaft play expect that, the car should smoke black when you stomp the gas, all dsms run rich unless he has modded it. so dont think thats bad. I own a 2g dsm man, and i can tell you EVERYTHING is gonna break, doorhandles when it gets cold, i mean everything, if i were you i'd get a 1g and mod it with the rest of the money. thats just my 2cents.. peace
