Ok, im new here, and started messing with my car recently, the first thing i got for it were rims, but the performance thing i got was a cold air intake. Now im all about learning new things, i have put 3 intakes in on my own, on a focus, lancer, and a FC. I have put them all on successfully, now the lancer iw the one i had a prb with, it had something calle d amass air flow sensor, so had to connect that as well. now the problem is that i have something that connects to my existing intake, lets see how do i put this, well i have the intake (almos the exact same as the cold air) and it has another hole that leads to another pipe like device about a 2" pipe that convers into a 1/2"X 2 to 3 " flat pipe that leads into a box. now my new intake has no connectin to this device. my problem is i dont know what it is and if i can remove it. i have a 97 accord ex coupe sohc vtec. thanx for the help in advance.

I'm a little confused, but here's what happened when i installed my short ram intake. The new pipe had 2 connections near the intake manifold that were supposed to be connected to 2 hoses that were plugged into the stock pipe. I did the 2 properly.
Now the stock intake pipe has an extra connection to some other sensor box that is closer to the battery. The aftermarket intake didn't have a connection for this, i removed the stock pipe that led to the box, but i didn't remove the box itself. The car has been running normally for almost 10 months, no problems whatsoever related to this.

That little box can go. As a matter of fact, I couldn't even get my AEM short ram in there WITHOUT taking it out. Here's the link I give to anyone with intake questions on a 5th gen. I followed this exactly, and no problems (going on a year)

I recently installed a short ram in my car and also left that box open. Whatever it is it hasn't affected my car one bit so I think as long as your breathers are hooked up you can leave this box to its own demise.

plug/close all the "left over" pipes and plugs, and you should be fine to remove that box. No problems there. It's just part of the resonator system that the stock airbox uses....as well it kind of regulates pressure waves...and some other stuff that no longer matters.
