Esperante

I quite like the Esperante. It has a 320 hp cobra V8, should do 0-60 in 5 seconds, and looks really neat.
It is having some problems, though, with delayed production.
Also, Dan Panoz is the guy who invented the patch to help you stop smoking. Nice to see he put his fortune to good use.:alien2:

Yeah, it's a wicked car.....second one from the Atlanta based company. It'll be plenty fast, have more exclusivity, and in my opinion be better looking than most of it's competition.

There is an esperante at Exotic Imports, they say that it is one of only 15 produced, but that strikes me as odd that they would only make 15 of those beautiful cars.

The one you saw may have been the 15th overall or the 15th that model year, but they are not limiting production to 15 cars. Production continues today.

I see...thanks for clearing that up.

It recently beat a Jaguar XK8 with the 20 inch wheels (not silverstone), and it was only a few points behind the 911 carrera convertible. Pretty good, IMO.

There is a Panoz GT1 street car that is limited to a low number like 15. I would guess the number is lower. I have yet to see one in real life. The Panoz GT1 is a nice looking car. The Esperante has great style.
Going back to the earlier posting, isn't it Don Panzo the wine maker, not Dan Panoz?

I'm pretty sure there was only 1 Panoz GT1 streetcar, just enough to homologate it for FIA.
I think you're right, Danny owns the street car business, and Don owns the Chateau, the winery, Elan Motorsports Technologies, Panoz MotorSports, ALMS, the Panoz Race School, etc.
FYI, the Esperante looks so much nicer in person, and there are more than 15 around...I saw at least that many, and probibly more when I went thru the factory this summer. Gotta love a car that Danny christens with donuts in the parking lot, before its delivered!

I have seen a few Esperante in the flesh or should I say sheet metal. I like the over all look of the car. The back end reminds me of the newer Miatas. For the price I would lean towards other cars, but it would be a unqiue car to have. Panoz is still unknown by many. Hopefully they will continue to grow. We need all the American car builders we can get.

You're forgetting Panoz Pharmaceuticals, the one that is worth in excess of $1 billion...
My retirement goal is to make wine, brew beer, build race cars. Don Panoz is my role model :D

Dr. Don Panoz has the pharmacutical company and invented the patch. His son Danny owns Panoz Auto Development, and builds the streetcars.

He couldn't have gotten off the ground without the money from his dad. So, hoooraayyyy for tobacco companies making cigarettes addictive, for without that, there would be no patch, and perhaps no Panoz.

The patch and time release coating on pills are what made him his fortune. Don has just recently gotten involved in cars.

Yes that is more likely. Still, less than 200 have been built since 2001, so you get a huge amount of exclusivity with one of these.

The Esperante GTR(Which is the car that you referred to as the GT1) is the homologation car for Panoz to be able to race in the FIA back in 1997. Only 2 were ever built, one crash tested, and one to homologate the race cars. You'll likely never see the GTR and it will likely never be sold.
Also, it is Don Panoz, and yes he is the car maker and the wine maker. He also owns Elan Motorsports Technology, the Elan Chateau resort, and several pharmacutical companies. Racing is only his latesty endeavor. He owns Road Atlanta, Sebring, and Mosport Race tracks as well.
