hey guy, im completely new at the 3000GT spectrum here, heh, the car looks unbelievable, sounds amazing, the interior i think is flawless, only problem is that i keep hearing all this crap about the engine. crap like it wont last past like 80k miles and such, which i dont believe, but when i go to look at the car it just keeps repeatin in my head. my dad seems to want me to get another car, but im not sure, help plz!
by the way, its a base 3000gt, not LS or VR-4

Whoever is saying that the engine won't make it past 80K doesn't know what they are talking about. Everything they claim should be suspect because they are making up facts out of their ass. Both my VR4s are over 80 (one is about 110K) and the engines have had ZERO problems.
3000 are solid and refined. They do not develop rattles and that "loose" feel that you'll get in other cars. The base is as solid as its higher trim brothers, it just doesn't have all the punch of the VR4.
Just get a carfax report and ask if they've done the 60K service (timing belt, plugs etc) and drive the car to make sure it shifts smoothly. Good luck :sunglasse

Duchguy, are you standing up for the women because you are one (in which case the name confuses me.... :eek7: ) or just because you're a rights consciese guy? J/P.
Anyway, ya, not lasting past 80K is way off. I know of some being driven around with near 200K. There are occasional problems and a few somewhat major/common problems (spun bearings---more so in the 2nd gens---and the auto trannys have a way of going to crap) but other than that, if you take care of them, they'll take care of you.
Am I the only one that thinks $13K for a base model is a wee bit overpriced? I know it has good miles but come on. My base had 72K miles and was in really good shape and I payed $5K. 60K service isn't an issue, so if everything looks like it's in good shape and it rides good I'd say talk him down a few thousand and go for it.

2nd gens cost more that 1st gens, and I dont know about a spun bearing being all that common. However, I wouldnt pay 13k for a base. And I would only pay 13k for a SL that is 97+ in damn good condition. If its a VR-4 than any year afer 93 and thats a good price.
