the gearbox in my 91 crx is very rough. i am the second owner, and ever since ive owned it, the box has been really rough, and its kind of hard to shift, but i can do it without any problems, its just really rough. any input on what the problem could be? or do i just need a new gearbox? thanks.

How many miles?
Any grinding?
Could need a clutch replacement, nice time to uprgrade to Centerforce or ACT with a lighter flywheel.

110000 miles and i have a hard time getting into 3rd gear especially. no grinding except when going into reverse, im not sure if that is normal or not. and yeah, i was thinking of getting a new clutch soon. it doesnt grab well at all, is this why? thanks.

Do you shift into 1st before shifting into reverse? If not you should! I'm guessing clutch needs to be replaced, but if the car has been beat on then it may need a tranny rebuild along with clutch. Me personally, if it requires a tranny over haul I would replace the tranny with an already re-built unit instead dealing with the old "bad" trans. Also rebuilts are pretty cheap & most come with a warranty. I'd rather rebuild a manual over an auto any day.
This is why I dont like to rebuild tranny's - there's more moving parts inside the trans than there is on the whole car. here is the internals of a manual http://www.binghamtonlife.com/manual/2gsm/images/91-13-8.jpg

alright, thanks mucho jackassi, i appreciate the help. that diagram is pretty humorous to me, when i looked at it i laughed at its complexity, then i thought back to how the fuck someone invented this shit. anyways, ill take your advice and try to get my trans rebuilt or get a rebuilt one. and i have been looking for a clutch upgrade soon anyways. would the act stage 2 clutch work fine on a d series? b series? thanks.

I have often wondered too, transmissions's are very complex machines. Electronically controlled automatics are the worst! here is a parts list for the honda trans posted above : http://www.binghamtonlife.com/manual/2gsm/images/91-13-9.jpg
I personally would go with a Centerforce dual friction, but ACT is also nice. You don't need the racing applications until your pushin 250HP.
Speaking of HP, you know what I wonder. . .How the fuck those tractor pull things can have 5, 6, 7, 8, HUGE power engines & drive 2 wheels? Redneck engineering? They hardly ever break, thats crazy shit. If yall never been to a tractor pull, theres nothing like an indoor event. Talk about LOUD LOUD ass shit!
