350 Full Size Blazer Engine Questions

I just recently removed the 350 TBI engine from my 1990 Chevy Full Size Blazer. I am tryin to put many upgrades to the engine and pretty much leaving very little stock for example I wanna go to a .488 lift on my cam, higher intake manifold, 40 over flat top pistons, and so on. I heard that when I do this that it's going to mess up the whole computer and its gonna run like crap. I was wondering if anyone new of any great ways to get around this. For example: Could I jsut rip the whole computer system out and put a carb on it or would the tranny then not work right? Could I find a place to burn me a chip to my specs? Could I take out the TBI and put a carb in and somehow "fool" the computer to think the TBI is still there so the tranny runs right? Any suggestions at all would be great.

Also, my TBI is kind of in rough shape. I oepned it up to clean it out and inside of the fuel meter body (the thing right behind the injectors) there is a big spring and my spring was rusted and had actually snapped in half. I was wonderin then if anyone knew of anywhere to replace that spring cause I can't find them or if anyone has a TBI for a 350 they lookin to get rid of?

We took a TBI350 from a 89 suburban put a std HEI ignition in and used a Edelbrock carb and manifold and put it in a 1983 K-5 Blazer it ran great
with out any computer controls :)

giltyler. That is different then NorthWolf33's situation though. You put a carb on a non computer truck. He wants to put a carb on a truck with a computer. So that is what I was asking about

fuel pressure for a tbi system has about 8-9psi and the mechanical pump produces about the same. a buddy has a 92 chev w/350tbi, he slapped on a elderbrock intake and holley carb and this worked pretty good. he used a fuel gauge to monitor the psi, but he didn't have to adjust the psi for it to run good.

the fuel pressure while it's running is about 8-9 psi, but when it's not running it's closer to 15 psi. some carbs can handle that pressure, but many cant. that high of pressure will blow the needle valve back into the carb and cause the bowl to flood.

your stock prom will work just fine for the modifications your doing. .040 over with a bigger intake and cam wont change your air flow all that much. you might have an SES light saying the mixture is lean and it might hold back some performance, but it wont effect driveability. i'm running a 305 prom with my modded 350 until i can afford a custom burn, and it runs just fine. if you have the money then go ahead and get a chip, but if ya dont, dont worry about it
