Corvette Problems

I am about to purchase my first Corvette. I don't want a new one, so I am looking at 77 thru 89 models. Is there anyone out there that can give me advice on what to lok for, such as mechanical problems, etc, on Corvettes in general.

The rule of thumb with Corvettes is to buy the newest one possible you can afford. With that said, I'd stay away from the 77-84's , unless you're going on looks. The TPI C4's are faster then & handle better then the C3's . Make sure you look over the suspension, cracks in the fiberglass, the weatherstripping on the t-top/targa doesn't leak, and look for stress cracks under the bar that goes between the door glass & hatch. If you can, get a C4 on jackstands and see if theres any excessive play in the wheels, wobbling it left & right, if theres too much play, the hubs may be bad. Corvette parts aren't too expensive and theres enough Corvette only salvage yards & aftermarket supply out there to find what you need at decent prices.

Thank you very much for the info! I was going on looks and durability. I will take your advice. Joe
