I thought they were one in the same?

Anywho, I would also like to know about this, for my '98, which I guess has a 7-1/2" ten bolt...

aight, well I found out that Posi-trac is just a GM name for LSD, and that it works because there is a clutch inside the pumpkin. Your rear wheels spin independent of eachother because it makes for good handling, but under heavy acceleration, the clutch engages, and the rear wheels are locked to each other(for drifting!).

I still don't know what has to be done, whether you can swap internal parts, or if you gotta get the whole pumpkin replaced

i Know there usually the same but i reallly need locked wheels.. I hate one wheel peels....LOL ive heard theres axle pins that can lock it up for cheap and theres also gear splines and whole posi units to put in for like 250$.... I hate the one wheel peel... The 355 i have in my s10 Deserves a nice rear end thts locked up...lol I plan on Nitrous, headers and a new intake over the winter so i want it beefed up too.. SO if you know what i can do about it for cheap ...lemme know.. ALso if you need a few tips bout tossin the v8 in i can help i think

You cant do it cheap. If you try, you will end up replacing the rear again and again. I had a friend that welded his spider gears together and that lasted forever, he went 12.90s constantly. Just a suggestion. To do it the right way, id say go with a bolt in 9 inch

Hey thx a lot i knew there was a cheap way but if i went with the bolt in Nine Inch how much do they cost and is it easy to find a 26 spline one to match the axles on the truck... Thx again. :loser:

A 9 inch will cost around 1300.00 another kinda cheap way is you can find a 10 bolt from a 69 thru 73 nova and have it cut down, it is a 8 1/2 ring gear and if you can find 94 or up s10 axles they will fit directly in and the are pretty strong, 28 spline. As far as a posi, the spider gears are the weakest link. I would sugg getting a mini spool, or welded spiders. It makes noise around corners, but you always have posi. Thats the setup i have in my 95, 8 1/2 10 bolt with 4:10s and a mini spool
