Which OBD II tool does anyone recommend. I have decided to buy one. I already have a laptop to run the software. Thanks in advance for the feedback.

Most places like auto stores and Meijers/ Wal-Mart carry good code readers from Actron. The CP9135 should run around $100 even and comes with a CD containing thousands of codes you can read and study, The tool itself gives you a DTC and what part is malfuctioning. Here is a link to Actron's web page for the CP9135. http://actron.com/product_detail.php?pid=16151 I hope this helps. :p

I found this a while back; although, I have not bought it yet. But for around a $100 you can turn your laptop into an OBD-II Scan Tool.

There is another one just like this called "Autotap" software, it does same thing but you can use a palm pilot too. The best scanner (in my opinion) is Vetronix Mastertech, but $6000 is a bit much for a DIY'er.

I bought the Actron and I'm glad I did. Now I'm not 'solving mystries without any clues'.
