Anyone have one? I need a separate PC for gaming, especially for the new Counter-Strike and Max Payne 2. Are they good?

Don't buy a gaming Pc until Doom 3 comes out, by then everything will be much much faster and better.

The hardware on the alienware pcs aren't the best, but they're not bad either. It depends on what the pc will be used for.
In terms of gaming, even when it does come out it'll be pushing the current hardware at that point in time to its limits.
Anyway back on topic, the Alienware pcs are known for their cosmetics, whether it is desirable by an individual or not, that's another thread discussion in itself, but if your after grunt and a bit of a look, take a look into case modding and computer building.
Cases such as Lian Li are well known, and LanBoy's (many others too, and btw I'm in Australia so these names are common here, but not sure about the US scene as I don't look over there) could be modified with neons, cables, UV's, etc.

I'm really not into cosmetics of the pc, but performance and graphic quality, and reliability, for gaming and media only.

I'm not into the US market to give any sort of help AT ALL but what's now is to lay down a budget which a computer can be purchase is achievable and on top of that meets your requirements.
A rule of thumb is to go 6 months ahead, or go for the extras that are normally shown, as it will take a good 6 months to get the best out of your pc so up until then u'll still have some 'leverage' for anything.

alienware PC's are arguably the best as far as "brand name" PC's go but for the money you can buid a custom system that will blow them out of the water

Yeah I agree with that...alienware makes alotta money due to their "bling bling" monitors and cases, they are all pretty metal and nice colors..thats why alot of people are drawn too them

I would like to see anyone back up these comments. I own a few AW PCs and lappys and they will rival the best. AW has there problems in the support department, but there is no hand made PC that is any faster. They might be close or even equal, but not better. Why? Because a top of the line AW uses all of the best parts currently on the market. A few others that do the same are voodoo (for a price), Sager with laptops, and hypersonic-pc. I have used hundreds of PCs and out the box AW tops them all. I have built part by part replicas, but I am unable to reproduce the settings that make AWs real speed. Good luck with any thing else. Sager has the best price/power ratio for laptops, but desktops are hands down on AW.
