94' power steering

I have a 94' RS that I use as my work car, this car has been the most unreliable car I have ever owned! Now it seems my power steering is going out. It makes a horrible whine when I drive it and more so when I turn the wheel. I am guessing it's the pump, it has leaked p.s. fluid for about a week in very small amounts and now it seems the pump is gone. The p.s. still works, just with the whine.

So, is this something I could do myself? If not can you guys give me a rough estimate on the cost of repair.
