Anemic automatic ?

My previous car was a '93 Firebird and now I bought a '00 GT automatic and I'm not very impressed with the power. The car looks great and you would think it would have some mojo but it's not there. Is it because it's automatic or the car is just underpowered ? They should have put a 2.2 or 2.4 in there.

its a little bit of both. its always hard going from a 300hp V8 to a 135hp i4
