RB26DETT in a 240?

I am wondering what fabricating needs to be done to get the RB26 DETT motor in my S13 240SX... Or would I be better off putting one in my Silvia (S14 K's Aero).... Thx

you should talk to people in the 240 forum...
be wary though... you'll receive criticism, and lots, if this is a dreamer's question.

if you have the rb ready, they'll be more willing to help...
as a heads up, i am pretty sure there was an rb25 swap done a while back in a magazine, though i can't remember which one...

Sport Compact Car featured the RB25 swap in their 'Hybrid How-To' section a couple months ago.

An RB swap requires less fabrication than you might think. Go to the 240SX section and check out the RB Swap FAQ first. That will probably answer any questions you have.

you cannot swap a rb26dett into an s13 240sx, this is per signal auto japan.

that sounds odd. I've seen RB motors in 180sx's, S13's, S14's, S15's, and a Sileighty. Now anyone of those body's should be the same as that S13 240sx.
Where do they state that?

RazorGTR:
uh, they told my tuner that when he called and asked them...and we are talking about an rb26dett, not rb25's. sorry but there has NEVER been a complete rb26dett swapped into an s14 or s15, and s13 engine bays are too small. aren't u a moderator?? so u should be careful what u say and question in these forums to avoid looking stupid on your own site. and another thing, maybe u should follow your own advice about arguing on the internet. the only reason i'm on this site is to research my project and buy some parts, but u got me to argue with u, i guess that makes me a real dumb ass, but at least i win the argument.

Well Jessica, you need a new tuner because your current one don't know jack shit. The RB26DETT will certainly fit into an S13 and I know this for a fact. I have a video of one down on Okinawa with an RB26DETT in it, plexiglass windows, and gutted interior and it is so fast its not even funny. If people are going to talk about Skyline engines, its always helpful to have a clue first.

Here is a VG30 in an S13 (and its a larger engine too)

But, just to show you that you have been given bullshit info:

There is your RB26 in an S13 Silvia.

EDIT:

http://forums.skylinesdownunder.co.nz/showthread.php?s=&threadid=28397

There you are an RB25DET into an S14 so the RB26DETT will fit too.

I could keep posting more but I think you get the idea. Oh, and the RB26DETT also fits into a 240SX engine bay just fine too.

This is where you can find an RB26dett in a S14. They didnt think it had enough power so they dropped a toyota 2JZ in it
check it out

I'll definitely raise the BS flag on this one. I know of several S13 RB26 swaps. You can't do the 4WD conversion easily, so you use the RB25DET tranny, and you use the RB25DET oil pan for clearance, but you can definitely fit the Engine into the bay.

If anyone picks up almost ANY issue of option, you will find probably at least 1 RB swap into the Sylvia chassis.

Better find a new tuner Jessica.

just for the record... yes u can do a RB swap on s13's ... but heres the catch.. only 180SX's and REAL Sylvias S13 or 14 (not your North American 240 with silvia badges) can put in a RB26DETT... because of RHD.. in a LHD car the steering columb is on the way of the TT..but u'll still need to get the tranny and oil pan from a RB25... HOWEVER.. north american 240's are definitely capable of having RB25DET.. without too much custom work... its still a good swap no doubt about it.. but if u really have heart set ona RB26 then ur gonna have to import a 180SX or Silvia... or just buy a SKyline ;).... OOOOOOOR you if u REALLLY want a twin turbo and dont want to import a car get a 2JZ :O

as for the people here that say the've seen "TONZ" of 240SX's with RB26's i think ur mistaken... i've heard of many people and places that SAY they're going to do it but have not done it yet... or decided its too hard and go with a RB25... if i am wrong i wanna see the pics of a COMPLETED S13 with a RB26DETT Swap

I took a ride tonight in a 89 240sx hatchback with a RB26DETT (yes, with both turbos). http://www.hpiheads.com/block.jpg is a pic of the engine bay.

This car is a monster, and I always crapped my pants when he dropped the hammer.

I didn't believe it was possible either, until tonight.

The only small problem that I've seen with a RB26DETT on s13-s15 is the new crossmember possitioning for your transmission... engine size was never a really big issue.

Here's the link to the magazine article mentioned. It's the most detailed info I've come across yet.

http://www.sportcompactcarweb.com/tech/0309scc_hybrid/

Here's basic info on which engines are available for swap and a difficultly/support rating.

http://klohiq.tripod.com/cars/240sx/swap.html

That's a good pic Hatchy showing that the RB26DETT can go into the 240SX.
It can be done! There are one of two options to fit it. One is to modify the steering linkage for the clearance it needs (how exactly I'm not certain), the other is to use the RB25's exhaust manifold or a custom header and single turbo the RB26.

No kidding...

The thread-starter probably either has the swap done, or they gave up by now.

.. just thought I'd add a note here - I currently work at a shop that is putting an RB26DETT into a 240 SX, it's a wiring nightmare, but everything has been firgured out and wired, many things needed to be extended as the computer in the actual skyline on the left side of the car, and the 240 sx everything is on the right (of course) Currently we are making aluminum piping for the intercooler and that's what's holding up the project now.

as for the oilpan, you can simply cut the front diff off of there, it's dificult to do it without cutting into the oil pan, but the person who owns the car is trying to get this done as inexpensively as he can, as for the steering linkage, the part that will catch is on the downpipe for the exhaust,
now if you cut into the pipe and weld a flat spot or even use a hammer you will make the clearance real easy.

also because the RB26DETT is so damn heavy, the kits you get for the conversion are a bit weak, so you have to almost double the thickness of the metal they use, and then weld it to the frame, I will have pictures of the engine and wiring mess in the car for people to look at after next tuesday as I am off work untill then, but I thought I would come in here and let you folks know what is up.

also, those two pictures of the RB26 in the 240's, now I didn't look that close, but neither of them look like they were wired up at all.

any questions, feel free to ask away, I'm not all knowing, but I know some.

Oh, and I'd better point out that I haven't done any of the work on this 240, I work on domestic cars at our performance shop, but I do think this is a cool project, so I ask a lot of questions.

okay, the first picture in there is yes wired up, sorry 'bout that, I spoke outta turn, the second picture from http://www.hpiheads.com/ well that's the one I have the problem with, it's listed in their projects section, listed as "comming soon" humm.. sounds a bit fishy to me.. here's a link to the actual site where the picture is located, and please note, this engine is not wired up yet...
