it's going to cost a lot of money. just think of the parts that you are going to need: manual tranny, new shifter, clutch+accessories. plus all the customization and labor.

It will run you up at least a grand or so, but it can be done. A friend of a friend who's really good at this kind of stuff changed out an automatic-transmissioned mid-80's Toyota Cressida into a manual. It took him the better part of a weekend.

Of course they make Accords with sticks. Supercar60, unless your friend's Accord is heavily modded, this is probably his best bet.

I own a 1988 Honda Accord Lxi. The car currently has an automatic transmission and I would like to convert it to a manual transmission. However, I am curious what all needs to be changed to do so.
What do I need to know? What will I need to change?

Can anyone help me?

Thanks!

I guess I just don't understand why anybody would want to go through the hassles and expense of converting any car from auto to manual. Just go to autotrader.com and find an Accord with a manual. I owned an '88 Accord LX-i Coupe with a 5-peed for 11 years until I bought my '99 Prelude. I did a quick check and there are 7 or 8 5-speed '88 - '89 Accords for sale within 100 miles of Portland. Not sure were you are exactly, but you shouldn't have any problems finding one of these.

If you do a complete engine swap many places will do it for an extra $500, so I would definately say that it would be the best $500 you could spend. I personally have not done this, but I do know people who have.
