Well, your fan clutch doesn't just turn on and off. Since it is belt driven by the serpentine belt, it will always be spinning as long as your motor is running. The concept behind a clutch fan is to use up less hp at higher rpms. At an idle the fluid inside keeps the clutch tight so it turns the fan faster, so you motor doesn't over heat. At higher rpms the fluid inside moves outward, creating the clutch to spin more freely, spinning the fan less, for less drag on the motor.

that explains alot but when i rev the engine you hear the fan whinning as it spins like you can hear the blade fighting through the air,it spins fast even at high rpm's?

1) Dude have someone you trust sit inside the car with the keys
2) parking brake on
3) look at the front of the motor
4) dont stick your head inside or other body parts
5) have pal bump the key on off quick
6) memorize which way the motor turns and look at the fan blades they are supposed to pull air thru the radiator

good luck

Yes, the fan will still spin pretty fast even at high rpms, since there is still centrifugal motion coming from the motor. There is still a looseness though, compared to if the fan was bolted directly to the water pump. That whooshing sound you hear is the fan cutting though the air, which is normal.

well that noise sucks its louder than everything else im gona go with a new electric fan I know they sell like performance fans do the cut the wind drag down or give you any hp?i know if you loose the stock fan and go with electic it gives you like 15 hp. this is a really stupid question but if i take the fan of and have no fan it will over heat correct?
