does TS-42 (Light Gun Metal) require a metal primer? or can i just use the normal primer?

Usual primer is fine

I recommend using primer under everything

I used White Primer under it and it turned out fine.

and if you wanted the gunmetal color slightly darker, you can choose to use a grey primer instead. either way would work.

I use primer under most everything ... however, Tamiya paints can be sprayed on bare plastic without crazing or other trauma.

i've sprayed light gunmetal on bodies and many parts w/out primer and turn out fine (as long as the parts are white or gray). I actually hate primer, everything I use it on turns out bad. I avoid it altogether! G'luck

in my experience, tamiya is also prone to chipping without primer. That's my experience though. They won't craze the plastic, but you'll get a better paint job.
