i just bought a new mazdaspeed protege at the begining of the month and it has already died on me three time with the same problems. the first time it was 30 minutes after i got it home, then it was another week later and the last time i was on my way from the nopi car show in atlanta. the problem is that the battery drains real real quick and the dealership blames me for the problems. i just wanna know if anyone else has this problem or anything like this ?

No crap!! I have had mine since June.....and my Radio broke...and they took it right in and fixed it!! I think you need to strong arm them a lil and see what they do. I'd say if you kept calling them and showing up ......they will probably fix it to get rid of you!

yea they blamed me for all the problems, even the techs that came from cali to ga to look at it. so my dad and i got a lawyer after the techs told me i needed to get the car off the lot even though they know of the existing problem that it has that they cannot fix. so we charged the dealership and the car with the lemon law deal. and they are in the buy back process at this moment. after this i'm done with cars, i'm in the truck scene now with an s-10. it's gonna be bagged and bodydropped and shaved by christmas, with plans of either suicide or lambo doors and some dubs.

WingsWest currently makes the best EVO hood (IMO). Fiber Images makes an OEM style and I think they are coming out with an EVO hood as well. VIS has the cheapest hoods, and they make both EVO and OEM style hoods. iON Performance makes OEM style CF hoods, and you can get them in colored weaves to match the car.

iON and WingsWest both have great customer service.

Which color do you have, and which style do you want, EVO or OEM???

agreed...Westwings knows what the hell their doing, and their not too pricey...I have no clue why sooping up Protege's seems like a new idea, but more power to you if you wanna rice it up.

Well, if you can't afford the EVO hood then I suggest iON's blue CF/kevlar hood. If you can spend the cash though, get the WingsWest hood and paint it like their show MP3. The raised sides of the hood are painted to match the car, and the lower middle part is left CF. They also have accesories like CF louvers and bonnets on the show car to make it look even more aggressive.

Here are some details about the iON hoods:

???

How do you consider a CF hood rice? And whoever said anything about new ideas besides you???

BTW, I noticed in your profile that you claim to have a 96 Mazdaspeed RX-7. Since the Protege' was Mazdaspeed's very first production car in '03, care to explain what makes your RX-7 a "Mazdaspeed"?

No actually, I don't get it. What piece of info do I have wrong??? You don't have to be a dick about it, I just have never heard of this, and I have heard that the protege' was mazdaspeed's first production car from several sources. Maybe you have a RX-7 that is modded with mazdaspeed parts, but that does not make it a "mazdaspeed RX-7". GET IT????

Oh yeah, and how is a CF hood rice again??? I don't think you can really talk about that alteeza boy.

For me, when I use the term rice, I use it to mean either "soup-up" or "enhance". Other people have different meaning for this ubiquitous term, but they're not me.

So I have Altezza lights. You're gonna label me because of what taillights I have? WTF is that all about?

Hold on a sec, I'm not trying to start a war here. You said that my CF hood is rice, which to most people is a derogatory term for tasteless or pointless modification to a car. I was merely pointing out the fact that you also had something that many people consider rice. I'm not flaming you, I actually think the car in your avatar looks pretty nice, I just wanted to hear why you think a CF hood is rice. Now you have pointed out that your definition is not derogatory like most people, so I understand the statement.

That's cool, man. we'll get drunk sometime

The RX -7, as I'm told, was specifically modified by Mazdaspeed, and has all "official" Mazdaspeed aero parts on it. However, the previous owner ignored this and replaced some of the aero parts, and now it looks like a regular RB or whatever.

You are correct, that the Mazdaspeed Protege is the FIRST production vehicle made by Mazdaspeed...even tho Mazdaspeed was started in 67' , they were never a "producer" of any cars or manufactured any main chassis parts until Mazda took them over a while back.

HOWEVER....the Mazdaspeed might be saying goodbye, because a DWI that I got earlier has skyrocketed my insurance costs. (almost 410 per month) :cya: so, I might have to buy my friends modded Protege5...

I think that's awesome you got a Mazdaspeed Protege, (dude, it's a collectors item) They sold alot in LA where I live, and I give the guys a thumbs up when I see one. I used to have a Protege, but it was only a 2000 LX with a damn 1.6 liter, but I loved that car :sadwavey: .

PEACE!

That's cool, bummer though that the previous owner sold some of the goods.

$410/month is crazy, gotta be careful drinkin' though. I think it's probably better for you that you have some consequences from the first one, it'll be easier to not do it again. My friend got 3 before they did anything, and then he was in big trouble. He said that he wished they had just punished him the first time so he learned his lesson then.

Thanks for the props on the car man, the MSP is really awesome for the price. There are no Mazdaspeed authorized dealers here in NM so I still have yet to see another one. I love driving around and never seeing anyone else with MY car:). Especially with countless STI's and EVO's out on the roads here, it's nice to know that mine is at least somewhat exclusive.

Sorry for the misunderstanding man, I reread my post and don't know what my problem was that day, but I came off as a dick somehow when I wasn't trying to be. The mazda board that I usually post on has kind of gone to hell lately, there is always flaming going on there so I think I am just used to people jumping on others about rice and crap. Really I was just wondering about your REX.

AH, fahgetaboutit. We all have our bad days. Somedays I feel like I need a high powered rifle and a tall tower to get thru the day. :angryfire

Yeah the DWI was a real eye opener, and it IS NOT worth it. Of all the crap I had to do ($600 liscence reinstatement, MADD Impact Lecture, $200 16 hour DWI Clinic at the Hospital) I'm never doing it again. Honestly, if I had the 16 hour clinic in high school, I never would have drove drunk.
If you've left one Mazda board to this one, get ready for some inactivity in terms of the Protege. Maybe it's because I'm hyperactive, but to me there aren't as many people talking as I'd like to be..

So, have you put the MSP on a dyno lately? I got a shitload of flack when I had my Protege, esp. with dipshits calling it a "Prote-gay." But obviously your looks like it dishes out rather than takes it.

Well, better to learn at some point.

Yeah, I still post there but not as much lately. There are just so many noobs lately with the 3.5 MSP selling good, and they have no idea what anything is on their car, so it gets a little frustrating. I agree about the lack of users here in this protege forum, it sucks not having anyone to talk to about the stuff I want to do next.

So, have you put the MSP on a dyno lately?

Not yet, there is only one dyno here where I live, and I haven't worked out all the bugs with the car. It runs insanely rich, shoots below 10/1 on the wideband under WOT. There is currently no way to fix this without going full standalone, and I'm not quite ready for that. I'll be doing a baseline dyno run for the car with all the bolt-ons to compare with the tuned results. I'll let you all know...

The protege' is very slow in stock form, but that is not what it was made for. It is a very strong car that has good handling abilities. Mine is pretty fast, but it still is not a drag-racer. When I'm done with the suspension, I think it will be great in the auto-X.
