Cabin Fever.. 1 part doesnt make sense?

ok for those of you who have seen it when that guy in the woods comes to their cabin and they chase him outside and swing at him with a bat and hit the truck a few times, why does the truck not start? they hit the hood and the fender a few times. why would that cause it to not start... thats an older truck with limited options and the engine bay is VERY spacious so even if they did slam in the hood enough for it to go down a significant amount it wouldnt have hit anything...

movies lack realism in some aspects
For that scene the scriptwriter, director, whatever didn't want the truck to start to add more suspense..
or maybe the battery was dead or the filters (air, oil and fuel) are all bogged up
